First Look: The Steak Truck

Words can’t even begin to describe the monstrosity that showed up on the NE corner of 47th St. & Park this week.  Ladies and gentleman, I’m proud to introduce, “The Steak Truck”

Oh my lord.  This could be a keeper.  The Lunch Menu, after the jump…

I was already on my way to lunch somewhere else, so I didn’t try anything (yet), but here are some of the menu highlights:

  • Triple Burger (1 lb. of meat) w/ Fries – $8.50
  • Pastrami or Corned Beef Sandwich w/ Fries – $5.95
  • Beef & Chicken Kebabs- Plain, w/ Fries, on Rice, or as a Hero
  • Onion Rings
  • “Specialty Dishes When Avaialble” (No Prices Listed): Chicken Tikka Masala, Paella, Chicken Strips, Falafel, Chicken Wings, Curry Chicken, Shrimp Stew & of course… STEAK

The three specials available yesterday- Shell Steak, Popcorn Chicken & a Bacon Cheeseburger.  The only disappointment:  www.steaktruck.com (printed on top of the truck) doesn’t work yet.

It’s just overwhelming.

Anybody tried anything off this truck yet?  Feel free to post a comment below.

And thanks to Nick G. for the Steak Truck tip. If you have a tip, news or recommendation, email it to zach@midtownlunch.com

  • God Damn … I’m from India and even I found him chicken gyro/ roll to be too hot. Guys be careful when he asks if you want hot sause.

This trucker dude is on 47th and Park – North East Corner

  • I’ve tried some of their selections, their truck is massive with the options they provide, but a lot of them are hardly ever available.

Their burger is their best option on their menu. You definitely get your money’s worth.

I’ve had the chicken over rice, its mediocre at best compared to other carts. But one word of warning, never order the beef over rice. They give you 3 sticks of kebab (which you have to fight out with the plastic knife which fails miserably) with 2 pieces of beef on each. Plus the beef is very rough to chew and when you consider what other carts in the area offer, its not a good choice at all.

Just stick to their burgers :-)

  • I tried this for the first time just now. Yes, I know it’s almost 4pm but what can I say? I’m a late eater. Anyway, I was looking for Madgy’s or a pizza truck and didn’t see it so I got this instead.

I bought the philly cheese steak with waffles fries. The fries were good. I’ve always been a fan of waffle fries so maybe I am biased. It was crunchy and didn’t need any salt or ketchup to be flavorful. Too bad I wasn’t as happy with the philly cheese steak. First thing I noticed biting into this sandwich was that it was damn salty. I’m not sure if they added extra salt or if it’s a result of one of the ingredients but I tasted it right away. The sandwich itself was ok. Other than the salt, the bread was kind of chewy. By the way, they used American cheese and not Cheese Wiz (FYI for those really Philly born people out there).

Overall, I wouldn’t buy the philly cheese steak. I should’ve read the comments first before I left. If I did, I would’ve gotten the burger but oh well.

  • Got the steak kabob on rice for $6. It’s actually pretty fabulous. Steak is chewy and tender, nicely spiced with black pepper and maybe harissa? The rice is yellow rice, also really flavorful and moist, and it has lots of stewed onion and chickpeas mixed in. Comes in a medium-sized box with a side salad as well.

  • Strangest lunch box I’ve ever gotten for $7.50. Asked for 3 skewers of steak kabob (usually 2 per order) on rice with salad. Got 6 skewers, plus 3 large chunks of curly fries, one falafel ball, with the rice and salad. Maybe they gave me the deluxe version? Steak isn’t as tender this time as it was a couple of weeks ago.

The rice is good and I love the topping of chickpeas and onion – not as good as the rice from the cart on 43rd/6th but still tasty.

    They’re really fast and cheap.
