Roll And Go Pizza Changes Name To Wanted; Ups Slice Price

It was a little surprising to see a new awning and name on the space where pizza/rotisserie chicken/shake emporium Roll And Go was. Now it’s called Wanted and you’ll have to pay $1.50 for a slice instead of $1. I’m not sure if the whole chain was renamed or just this location, but we’ll see if the price hike (and kidnapping-inspired signage) will lead to less of a line out the door at lunch.

The Banh Mi Cart Starts Serving Pho Today!

You don’t see many tweets from the Banh Mi Cart at Hanover Sq. & Pearl St., but when they do take to Twitter, it’s for something important. Yesterday they announced that beef noodle soup (aka, pho) at the cart starting today. I’ve never had noodle soup from a cart, let along pho, so it will be interesting to see the price point and how it stacks up against the neighborhood’s best at Nicky’s Vietnamese Sandwiches. Based on the quality of their sandwiches, I’m going in with high hopes.

First Look: Route 66 Smokehouse Is A Good Lunch Option If You’re Not Paying

P1040963

We have a lot of new restaurants that open downtown that are pretty far outside of Midtown Lunch’s price boundaries of $10. When Route 66 Smokehouse announced its opening I took a peek at the menu and saw a bunch of items that sounded delicious including a pulled pork BBQ sandwich that I’d already tried at a pop-up, brisket, and a fried oyster po’ boy. The last one is pretty rare in Lower Manhattan, although you can find an awesome shrimp and oyster po’ boy at Cheeky Sandwiches on the Lower East Side.

I love a good po’ boy, so I took a trip to Route 66 to try an expensive version of a classic sandwich.  Read more »

A No-Frills Fried Fish Sandwich At Terrace Fish & Chips Needs Little Adornment

P1040949

Somedays, against my will, I crave a lunch that’s kind of trashy. My mind wandered back to a delicious fish sandwich on white bread that I had at the defunct Sea World in Tribeca, and I wondered if I could find something similar in the Financial District. The answer is yes, because you can find something similar at Terrace Fish & Chips just off of Pearl St. (nr. Stone). But would it be as good?  Read more »

Lovely Day: A Charming Lunch Spot With An Irish Breakfast Hangover Helper

When looking at the menu of Lovely Day on Elizabeth St. (btw. Spring & Prince), you may wonder if you’re seeing things. A full Irish breakfast is listed, along with Thai noodle dishes and Japanese ginger fried chicken. Oh, and there’s also a burger. When you combine that with the old-timey interior that reminded me of a French cafe, it’s doubly confusing. What is this place?  Read more »

Justino’s Pizza Adds By-The-Pound Italian Buffet

There’s an interesting new by-the-pound buffet option in the Financial District at Justino’s Pizzeria (formerly Pizza Pizza) on Pearl St. (nr. Stone). Why is it interesting? Because it’s $6.95 per pound and from the quick scan I made during lunch yesterday it looked like there weren’t a lot of scale-friendly options. There were a couple of kinds of pasta, a baked dish with cheese on top, broccoli, sliced Italian bread and then a few tureens off to the side that I’m guessing were soup. Pasta and broccoli are not the lightest of items, so it wouldn’t be hard to spend $10 or more here if you’re really hungry. It might be a hard sell when you can get a couple of plain slices there for $5.
