Tri Tip Grill May Be The Best Thing in Rock Center

Tri Tip Grill
Sorry for the schmear-my lens had a run-in with BBQ sauce

Two very important things happened to Midtown yesterday. 1) We got the Double Down (and Mamacita immediately improved it), and 2) we got steak sandwiches! While I loves me some fried chicken, biscuits, cheese, and bacon, I love steak more. I especially like when it’s a somewhat affordable lunch. Tri Tip Grill is probably the most important thing to happen to Rockefeller Center since the ice rink, and maybe NBC calling it home, and the tree; so it’s the 4th most important thing. But it’s number one in most delicious and juicy!

Tri Tip Grill More Packed Than KFC?

atlunchnow

We haven’t gotten too many reports from the three Midtown KFC locations, but the newly opened Tri Tip Grill in the Rock Center Concourse seems like the place to be today.  From Lunch’er “skainich”

Very tasty sandwich! Although the wait was a bit long, I think we waited 10 minutes in the first line, and then 20 minutes with a beeper. The sandwich was very flavorful, and I think the original sandwich is the way to go. Almost made me forget about how necessary it is for us to get a Chik-fil-A in midtown, almost.

According to Brownie, the line has been out the door most of the day but they’re easing the pain with (delicious) free samples of steak! Lunch’er Richard hit the place up before the lunch rush.  His “big buck with roadhouse onions” is after the jump…

Tri Tip Grill vs. KFC Double Down

If you’re looking for something completely different for lunch today, you’ve got two big options hitting the ML scene today…  Tri Tip Grill opens in the concourse under 30 Rock, and KFC begins serving their new “Double Down” sandwich.  If you choose the latter, keep an eye out for NYT restaurant critic Sam Sifton… he seems pretty psyched for today’s launch.  (And who can blame him?!) Live reports from early adopters at both fronts are encouraged.

Market Still Closed; Tri Tip Grill Opening on Monday

So, despite all the PR hype, Blondie sends word that Market (in the Hyatt Grand Central) still hasn’t opened yet.  So we’re still not sure if this is going to be worthwhile for Midtown Lunch’ing purposes.  Tri Trip Grill, on the other hand, is right up our alley and after months of waiting is planning to open on Monday in the Rock Center Concourse.  If PR photos are your thing, Feast and Thrillist both have an inside look. And you can check out the full menu here.

Tri Tip Grill Menu Revealed; Opening in April

DSC05887

Tri Tip Grill, the California based fast food chain that is taking over the old Tossed & Mendy’s spaces in the Rock Center Concourse has finally set an opening date. Construction was delayed a bit, but they’re hoping to open their doors on April 5th with an official Grand Opening on April 17th.  We also snagged a copy of the menu, which (as promised) is entirely under $10. It features a whole mess of tri tip sandwiches with various toppings, plus chicken, salmon, and a portobello option (you know… for people who don’t eat steak but feel compelled to eat at a steak place!?)  There’s also burgers, entrees, salads, side dishes and soups.

Check out the complete menu, after the jump…

Buckhorn Grill to Bring California Tri Tip to 30 Rock

The Rock Center Concourse has been a hive of activity over the past year, with Tossed, Sbarro’s and Booster Juice closing, Two Boots moving to 9th Ave., and Mendy’s moving to street level. Not much new and exciting has popped up as replacements… until now. The Sacramento Business Journal is reporting that Buckhorn Grill, a “fast-service” restaurant with locations in Northern California will be opening their first franchise in New York City. According to the article, everything on the menu is under $10 and includes items like salads, burgers, and chicken sandwiches. But their signature item is “tri tip”, a triangular roast which gets marinated, grilled and sliced.  Not to be confused with steak tips… see what I’m talking about after the jump…
