Midtown Lunch

Dangerous Sushi: Over on the Los Angeles section of Midtown Lunch today, Zach continues our tradition of eating sushi from places that could make some people a little squemish... a food truck!  It's no Duane Reade, or Jack's 99 Cent Store (thank you very much!) but I suppose it'll do in a pinch.

Who Knew?: According to Adam Kuban, those cheap ham sandwiches on white bread at Cafe Zaiya (on 41st btw. Mad+5th) are actually far more "authentic" than any of us ever imagined. (He remembers them fondly from a cafe in Hiroshima.) Good to know... although we can't really imagine wanting one of those over Zaiya's fried chicken sandwiches!  Right?

Vendors Who Are Braving the Rain: With the weather the way it is, you'd think the ML Twitter Tracker would be a graveyard. Not so! Billy "Mr. Softee" Gunnz and Street Sweets are off, but Schnitzel will be serving their dirty bombs on 52nd, Rickshaw is on 46th, Cupcake Stop is on 52nd, and Cravings is on 48th. And the Treats Truck and Papa Perrone are finally together on 55th. (Plus wusses can get 15% off Goodburger delivery.)

Street Meat Palooza 3 Reminder: Just a friendly reminder... you have until 6pm tonight to nominate your favorite street meat vendor (that's chicken + lamb + rice + white sauce + hot sauce) and register for a chance to attend Street Meat Palooza 3.  Do it.  Do it.

ML Dilemma: Free Meat… On Salad!: This is a tough one.  We love free stuff... but can't stand salad! What to do?  The newly opened Tri Trip Grill (in the Rock Center Concourse) will give you free meat with the purchase of any salad today.  In related news, Tri Tip Grill and Billy "Mr. Softee" Gunnz have both been added to the ML Twitter Tracker.  Anybody else we're missing?  Send it in.

Gyu Kaku Groupon Fine Print: Were you one of the 3,720 people who purchased the 50% off Groupon for Gyu Kaku last week? The restaurant has hung a note on the door to clarify some of the fine print.

Free Churro Alert: On the ML Twitter Tracker today... Frites & Meats was displaced to the Flatiron because of the POTUS visit,  Schnitzel is on 48th 46th with veal, Wafels is on 46th, the Eggstravaganza cart has tacos and burritos today, Cravings is on 53rd, and Baja Fresh is offering free churros or a soda with any $6 purchase if you show them this tweet.

Free Coffee Alert: In honor of Earth Day tomorrow (4/22), Oren's Daily Roast (in Midtown on 51st and 3rd Ave.) will be giving away free coffee to anybody who brings in a regular mug or resusable travel mug from 10am - closing.   The deal is good at all locations except Grand Central, because they only sell beans. Midtown East freeloaders... don't forget your mugs tomorrow.
