Lunch Box Buffet Replaces Fay Da With New Bakery Case

Lunch Box Buffet

A few weeks ago Lunch’er Tiffany tipped us off to the news that  Fay Da is no longer selling pastries at the front of theLunch Box Buffet (on 34th btw 7th+8th), but they didn’t let the space stay empty for long. The space is once again filled with buns and cakes,  but this time Lunch Box themselves are making it fresh on the premises. I stopped by to pick up a few treats to see how they stacked up.

E&E Grill House Serves an Impressive But Pricey BLT

E&E Grill House

When we first noticed that a restaurant called E&E Grill House was taking shape on 49th St between 8th Ave and Broadway, we took a snarky jab at their self endorsement as a, “genuine, approachable, neighborhood grill house for everyone”. However we’ve had a change of heart about this place if a recent lunch featuring a candied BLT sandwich and house made potato chips is any indication of things to come.

Quality Cakes Sticking Around Until October

Now that “hurricane” Irene has come and gone, it’s back to business as usual. And lately, business for us seems to be writing about the ice cream cake bar at Quality Meats. I know we’ve covered it twice in the past few weeks, but we couldn’t resist one more exciting piece of news. We just got confirmation that they will continue to serve their innovative and delicious mini-ice cream cakes until middle of October. Great news for both Blondie and myself who are addicted to these things and I suppose sad news to anybody who’s a fan of their charcuterie bar, which won’t return until all the ice cream is gone.

ML Happy Hour: Rock Me Like A Hurricane!

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

We all know the allegory of “The Boy That Cried Wolf.” It’s on my mind right now, because I just don’t know what to believe. We were just subjected to a non-stop media blitz of “OMG! Earthquake!” which amounted to basically nothing but one lawn chair tipping over. Now we are looking at headlines of “OMG! Hurricane!” Should I be in a panic? Or is this just a creation the ‘disaster porn’ industry that is the local media? Such a conundrum, it’s enough to drive a lass to drink, I tell you.

So, I’ve decided to take preventive measures and take the hurricane down before it can do the same to me. Here are some places you can go if you’d like to follow this course of action…

Wafels & Dinges’ Island Hopper is Like a Mini Vacay

Wafels & Dinges has been keeping it seasonal and mixing it up with summer specials for the last few weeks. I was quite disappointed I missed out on their Feelin’ Peachy Waffle last week. So the other day, in celebration of National Waffle Day (it seems there’s always some cause to celebrate with waffles), I decided to hunt down their current special.

Flatiron Lunch: Madison Ave Halal Truck Serves Some Good Chicken

Every Friday our man UltraClay goes south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch. He’s still out of the country this week, so Donny has stepped in to take over.

Flatiron Lunch

A while back fellow lunch’er Goats had mentioned a halal truck on Mad btw. 27+28th. But my craving for street meat comes and goes. Sometimes it’s the farthest thing in my mind while sometimes I’ll happily eat it every freakin day. And it just so happened that while I was walking down on Madison Ave, I found the halal truck that Goats talked about and the smell of curry drew me in. It smelled delicious and struck my halal food craving.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Opens On Monday: Back in July we brought word that the LA based coffee company, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, was opening their first store in NYC and the day has finally come! According to Gothamist, New York City's very first Coffee Bean (on 39th btw. B’way+6th in Times Square) will open this coming Monday (8/29).  Hopefully I'll get to celebrate the leaving of Irene with a nice iced blended drink.
