I have passed by Hong Bo Buffet countless times, always noting it as a place I should probably try, but never going in because I was always on my way to eat somewhere else. Not for the faint of heart, Hong Bo is a Chinese steam table. The kind where you point to the food items you want and they get piled on a big styrofoam plate for you. $6 lets you point 4 times.
As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Alexandra, a sushi lover who works in marketing and hates injera ( I have to agree, it is a bit off-putting).

Favorite Kind of Food:Sushi. Always and forever sushi.
Least Favorite Kind of Food: That spongy bread used in Ethiopian cuisine. I think it tastes funny and something about it just plain weirds me out. Also, eel in sushi. No thank you.
Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: Korean is a great anytime cuisine, but especially for lunch. I like Koreana (38th and Chestnut) and usually get the bi bim bop, but I’ve recently discovered kimbap to be just as delicious. I also like Miran (20th and Chestnut) because they give you those little dishes of appetizers. For sushi, I like Aki (12th and Walnut). I also love the pizza at Rustica (2nd and Poplar). They always let me have the corner slice of sicilian when I ask, and they have Jones sodas.

With 3 locations around the city, the sweet treats at Naked Chocolate Cafe are easy to access. While the teas, hot coffee drinks, and hot chocolate (yum!) dominate the menu, there are some warm weather friendly items- like the frozen hot drinking chocolate.
The Creperie is very popular among the undergrads over at Temple. Both sweet and savory crepes are made to order and tons of fillings are available. They tend to get pretty busy during lunch time, but the boys inside the truck work fast. You can make your own crepe or chose from the combos available. Most of the combos are relatively normal. But not the “Alexander the Crepe”. This one is a special breed.
No Profiled Luncher Today because nobody volunteered, that makes me sad. I love reading your recommendations. I hope you guys start emailing me (jamie@midtownlunch.com) and volunteering yourselves to be profiled soon, or I might just cry.
Instead, I want to share a dish that 12th Cantina in Reading Terminal just starting serving this weekend- Duck Chili.
