Just 2 lunches left before Passover ends and I can reunite my face with a fat sandwich. In the meantime, here are some K for P lunches that are holding me over.

Frogs and Tripe at New Phnom Penh
I was in the mood for soup and the soups at New Phnom Penh were recommended by friends. I have had some great Cambodian meals in Philly so it seemed promising.
Inside, the small restaurant has a whole garden of plants lining the window and on our visit, There’s Something About Mary played on the television.

The Search for for Happiness Eventually Pays off at Happy Noodle Bar
Happy Noodle Bar opened last month in the space formally occupied by Nan Zhou. The small spot serves Chinese small bites and soups from various regions of China including Yunan and Xi’an. Then to round it out, the Happy people threw in Korean food and… a bloomin onion (not a joke! it is the first appetizer on the menu though not available when I visited). Our foray into Happy Noodle Dining was not a continuous happy time. Please have some patience by reading through the sad, the bland, and the ugly before you come to the good stuff.
Classic Jiz Biz and Other Lamb Dishes from Feasterville’s Uzbeki Dining Palace Samarkand
For a while now Uzbekistan has been my spot to trek to for my Uzebeki food cravings and yes I do often enough have cravings that only Uzbeki food can satisfy. A while back Craig LaBan recommended Samarkand, a bit farther and fancier than Uzbekistan, but offering a very similar menu and comparably affordable prices.
Mystery, Cold Chicken, and Great Noodles at Hiro Ramen
I didn’t really get Hiro Ramen, the less than a year old ramen spot on 11th and Chestnut. It almost seems like they are still in soft opening, though the actual soft opening was back in October. The website is virtually blank and there is no updated menu online. But I knew what I needed to know, they serve ramen. And since my goal is to try all of the ramen in Philly (Ramen Bar may be the only spot I haven’t tried yet), I went to check Hiro off my list.
Laotian Meat Sticks from Ratchada
Recently, Ratchada replaced Cafe de Laos on 11th and Washington. New owners, but thankfully still serving Laotian food, which is scarce in this city. The already attractive interior has been spruced up a bit more. Ratchada offers a classier experience that might appeal to those seeking something other than the cafeteria like experience a la Pho Ha and others.

Terakawa Ramen: Tis the Season for Ramen

A bowl of ramen is almost as good as a glass of whiskey to warm you up during the winter. But where should we go to find that perfect bowl? Ramen Boy only lasted about 5 months in Chinatown. I wasn’t crazy about the ramen and the gyoza were awful. When Terakawa Ramen opened in the Ramen Boy location barely a few weeks after its closing, I was hopeful. I had visited the New York location of Terekawa and enjoyed their ramen and appetizers. Would it be any better than its predecessor? Or is the location cursed?
