Free Lunch at Reading Terminal this Wednesday

Can you believe my favorite spot in the City, Reading Terminal, has been around for 120 years? She is sure aging well. In honor of the anniversary, tomorrow (Wednesday) lunchers can receive $10 towards their meal at over 30 participating venders via Level Up from 11-4pm (Unfortunately, you need a smart phone for this deal).

And if you are new to Level Up (basically an app that allows you to pay by plugging in your card info. To pay, you place your phone next to the merchant’s phone and you are done)… you can do me the favor of using my referral code so I can get some cashhhh to spend on more lunches that I can report back on. Thanks!

King Cake and Double Happy Hours

You should celebrate Mardi Gras at least a little bit today. Beck’s Cafe is offering sprinkle-adorned king cake. And Khyber Pass Pub has happy hours going on from 11am to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm, so there is really no excuse not to enjoy their $2 Abita.

Foobooz has this list of other Mardi Gras happenings.

Happy to Hop On The Marrakesh Express

Today, recently Profiled Luncher Rachel checks out a new food truck in UCity.

At Penn, people think they are food cart experts. You constantly overhear conversations about “my regular order at Bui’s, or how “Obviously the people at Magic Carpet  know me.” That being said, new food carts on campus are no small deal, especially this one. When I heard that Marrakesh, a restaurant previously a little further west than I’d probably venture, gave up its storefront for a food cart closer to campus, I could not wait to be one of the first to try it. People who knew the place raved, and people who though they new food carts (me included) got very excited.

Grocery Store + Indian Food At Rice and Spice

I worked up an appetite after a meeting in UCity, so I Yelped around and found a few reviews about an Indian restaurant at the back of the Rice and Spice Grocery store. I walked straight to the back and was given a pen and pad to write down my order.

Happy Flowers and Chocolate Day Folks

Whether you are treating yourself or someone else, food always makes a great gift. Besides the buy one get one deal at Qdobo you could think about the budino from Barbuzzo, sold in 2 packs today. Or Sweetbox cupcakes. A cannoli from Termini Bros? Or maybe a whole roast duck?

Ramen Battle: Ramen Boy vs. Yakitori Boy

I checked out the soft opening of Ramen Boy this weekend, and though you can’t eat there today (closed Mondays) I am hoping my thoughts can help you decide whether you want to rush out there tomorrow.

The opening of Ramen Boy is kind of a big deal because Philly and ramen are not that well acquainted. The brand new space is small and decorated to look authentically Japanese. Seats are backless but have a little shelf for your belongings underneath. For now, it is BYO.  The menu is small; 4 ramens, gyozas and a handful of other appetizers, 2 rice platters, and dessert.

When the owners of Yakitori Boy announced that they would be opening a ramen restaurant, I thought I would get a preview by trying the ramen already found on Yakitori Boy’s menu.

After the jump; Yakitori Boy’s ramen vs. Ramen Boy’s ramen… is the ramen- focused restaurant’s version superior?
