Midtown Lunch

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have lunch’er Jennifer who will eat pretty much everything and is jealous of a certain area of the city that is a food truck magnet.

Favorite Kinds of Food: When it comes to food I’ll eat just about anything once to try it.  As for a favorite it would defintely have to be anything sweet.

Least Favorite Foods: Anything overly spicy, whether it’s spicy hot or just has too much spice in general.

Favorite Lunches Downtown: Cheese enchiladas from Tajin on Greenwich (btw. Edgar & Rector), the daily special or chicken tempura roll from Niko Niko on Pearl (btw. Wall & Pine), lamb over rice with chickpeas and white sauce from Xpress Power Lunch on Wall & Pearl, bruschetta slice from Da Vinci’s on Water (btw. Broad & William), and the Caesar salad with cranberries substituted for croutons from Just Salad on Maiden Lane (btw. Gold & Pearl). Read more »

About a month ago news broke that a location of Crisp was opening down in the Financial District. This was pretty exciting news for falafel lovers who don’t like standing in line at a street cart for their fix. Paper and temporary signage are up on the coming location at Fulton & Williams streets, although it’s not expected to open until December.

I don’t know about you all, but Brazilian food isn’t really something I think about or even think I can eat for lunch. Sure, there’s Churrascaria, but I’m not rich enough to eat there. Right next door to that on W. Broadway (btw. Franklin & White) is bright yellow Barzinho, or the place where there are a bunch of lunch options for $10. All the way back in May I stopped by the 7 Hanover Cart on Hanover Square (at Pearl) to try their chicken curry. I was crushed when told they were out already and was soothed with an improvised chicken curry. They aim to please!
