Spicy Dumplings, Mexicue On The Twitter Tracker: There's not much Mexican food on the ol' ML Downtown Twitter Tracker today but maybe you can sneak a Corona with lunch? What we do have is a Wafels & Dinges cart on Whitehall, Rickshaw Dumplings on Wall St., as well as Hudson, with szechuan chicken dumplings. Mexicue is on Varick, Kimchi Taco Truck is on Hudson and so is Sweetery.

$5 Burritos At Toloache Are A Good Way To Celebrate Cinco De Mayo

The stars aligned yesterday as I was trying to decide what I wanted for lunch, and my brain randomly replied “burrito.” The nearest source of decent burritos to my office is Toloache Taqueria on Maiden Lane (btw. William & Gold) and it was a good excuse to go back there since I’d already tried their tacos and pozole. When I got there I saw the above sign in the window advertising $5 burritos on Cinco de Mayo which just happens to be today. Soon, People May Actually Be Jealous Of Our Downtown Lunches

After a long, cold winter of only a few new lunch spots opening downtown with food under the $10 mark there’s now a slate of new places opening in the next couple of months. The list is getting longer every day, with an announcement that the FiDi is getting a cheap Thai option when Rhong Tiam opens on Water St. (nr. Coenties Slip) on May 30. We’re also getting a location of Luke’s Lobsters on William (nr. Broad) and the Potbelly Sandwich Shop on Maiden Lane (btw. Gold & Pearl) that looks like it could open any day now. Calexico Cart Defection On The Twitter Tracker: Sad news for all of you Calexico lovers in SoHo. Starting tomorrow the Broome St. cart will be moving to 24th & Broadway, but the Prince & Wooster location will remain. Also on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker, Wafels & Dinges truck is on Hanover and they have a cart on Greenwich. Joyride is on Hudson, Bian Dang is on Broad St. and Korilla BBQ is on Front.

America’s Next Great Restaurant Is Actually Pretty…Good

The words “healthy” and “soul food” would probably send shivers of terror down many people’s spines, but these things no longer surprise me. It seems like every new place opening in or near the Financial District is trying to make their food healthy-sounding. And this is what you get from Soul Daddy, a new restaurant at the South St. Seaport, begat from a reality TV show, that we first showed you Tuesday. The restaurant takes soul food, puts it in a space that is reminiscent of Chipotle, and tries to let you eat lunch without having a heart attack afterward.
