L&L Hawaiian Adds Crazy Cheap Chinese Food

l&l buffet sign
It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with L&L Hawaiian BBQ on Fulton St. (at Gold), one of the city’s only sources of greasy, carby Hawaiian plate lunch and Span musubi. They were closed by the Department of Health last fall, and then reopened, but I’ve got to say I’ve been a little afraid of returning for another lunch. I may have to though because they now have a $5.99/pound Chinese buffet Chinese food steam table (not by-the-pound, upon further investigation). I think in place of the sushi bar that used to be up front. This price point is on par with Yip’s a couple of blocks away on William St. so there’s a little competition brewing.

Bill’s Bar & Burger To Compete With Shake Shack In BPC

It’s not only the Financial District that’s having a flurry of new lunch spots opening: Battery Park City is having its day in the sun with the previous Japanese curry invasion announcement and word that Bill’s Bar & Burger is coming to the neighborhood. It’s already been approved by contributors over on the Midtown site, so maybe we should start getting excited about the beef influx coming our way. Read more »

Breaking: Go Go Curry Opening Within DL Boundaries!

Do you like giant platters of fried meat with Japanese curry gravy and rice? And do you occasionally want to eat something called a Grand Slam that doesn’t come from Denny’s? If the answer to these questions is “Yes!” get ready to get excited because Midtown institution Go Go Curry has announced on Facebook that it’s opening a third location somewhere near the World Financial Center. That could mean Battery Park City or somewhere in Tribeca…or actually in the WFC. At this point, details are scarce other than it’s opening early in 2013. We can only hope that they bring the eating contest and free anniversary toppings with them.

Schnitzel, Sweets, Falafel, Dumplings On Hudson St.: The WFC lot is rocking Hibachi Heave, Kimchi Taco and Shorty's today. Elsewhere on the Twitter Tracker, Palenque is on Wall btw. Hanover & Pearl, Toum is at Wall & Water, Crisp, Sweetery and Schnitzel & Things are in Soho at Hudson & King and Rickshaw's at Hudson & Houston.

Golden Chopsticks Does A Good, No Frills Lunch Special

There are days when you want a turkey sandwich because you’re trying to be healthy, and there are others when you just need a big, cheap helping of Americanized Chinese food. New Golden Chopsticks is one of the only remaining hole-in-the-wall Chinese spots in the Financial District that we haven’t written about. It’s nestled next to Terrace Fish & Chip off of Pearl St. and I can say it’s one of the better crappy Chinese food lunches I’ve had in a while, and I didn’t even get a gratis egg roll or watery cup of soup with it.
