Blue Smoke BPC Now Has Takeout

The good new is that the Blue Smoke on Vesey St. in Battery Park City is now offering actual food for takeout and not just cupcakes and other baked goods. The bad news is that you can’t really get lunch there for $10 or less unless you want a salad. Still, this area is pretty barren of and BBQ options and there are a couple of sandwiches that aren’t too expensive. Sneak a peek at some of the menu straight ahead.

Koko’s Walk Up Window Now Includes Items Beyond General Tso’s

I got really excited when I discovered the walk up window at Koko Asian Fusion on Greenwich (btw. Carlisle & Albany) where you could get quality General Tso’s chicken at a rock bottom price. When I walked by recently I noticed they’ve changed things up and are offering a different special over rice for $5.95 at the window every day. If you like restaurant quality Americanized Chinese or Thai food on the cheap, this is the place to get it.

First Impressions: Phil’s Steaks Is The Real Deal, But You May Want To Tweak Your Order

As you may have heard, people are really into this truck called Phil’s Steaks which aims to school us New Yorkers on what a Philly cheesesteak should actually look/taste like. They use bread from Philly and  poached some of their staff from Philly. But how are the sandwiches once you get past the hype? We’ve already gotten a take from Rachel when the truck parked in Midtown and she generally said it was good, and straight ahead are what a couple of Downtown Lunch’ers thought, as well as the menu.

What A Passive-Aggressive Street Food Vendor Beef Looks Like

I spotted this yesterday when I was walking back from lunch: One of those fruit/smoothie vendors blocking everything but the window of the Our Heros truck at Wall & Water streets. I’ve seen them both parked there before, but never this close to one another. I guess it’s nice that they learned to co exist…

At Lunch Now: Lovers Of Cheesesteaks Will Not Be Deterred By Rain

Phil’s Steaks was supposed to debut in the Financial District a month ago, but instead took some time off to perfect their craft. They were on Old Slip & Front today and despite the cold and rainy conditions, a sizeable line was in effect for lunch although you couldn’t tell until getting closer as people were standing under the overhang of the building in front of the truck. I did not have time to stand in that line, but check back tomorrow for a take from one Downtown Lunch’er who did. And leave your impressions in the comments!
