Cafe Doppio Closed For Renovations

There was a little bit of alarming news in the ML: Downtown inbox last week, with a Lunch’er saying that soup mecca Cafe Doppio at Broad & Beaver was closed for renovation. That can sometimes mean that the place is just closed permanently, but no before confusing everyone by taping some note to the metal shutters saying they’re “renovating.” When I walked by, the windows were all papered up, so it looks like they are actually sprucing the place up, and I bet that the Hale & Hearty next door is hoping they take their sweet time.

Half Off At Cowgirl Seahorse: I've never eaten at Cowgirl Seahorse on Front St. (btw. Peck Slip & Frankfort) mostly because it's over the ML budget. There's a deal on Scoutmob today for 50% off which makes lunching there a pretty good deal, and they have something called an ice cream baked potato.

Start The Week With Pork Chop Over Rice: On the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker today...Bian Dang is on Front, Crisp is on Hudson along with Sweetery and Schnitzel & Things, Frying Dutchmen is on Varick and La Cense is on Wall. Comme Ci Comme Ca is at Old Slip and Calexico will be serving on Prince starting at noon.

Last Day For Free Sweetery, Korilla: It's your last shot to get free Sweetery and Korilla BBQ at Mulberry & Spring today as part of CNET's pop-up shop. The ML Downtown Twitter Tracker also shows Eddie's Pizza Truck on Hudson along with Schnitzel & Things, and Bongo Brothers and GO Burger are on Varick.

Taste Of Tokyo’s Maki Rolls Mix A Little Breakfast With Lunch

There are many sources of maki rolls in the Financial District, and many of them involve refrigerated cases in stores like Zeytuna or the swanky new Duane Reade (shudder). There are a couple of places that offer lunch specials with two rolls for less than $10 but most limit you to the more pedestrian varieties like salmon, tuna or California. When I noticed Taste of Tokyo on Beaver (nr. William) had a two-roll special for $8.25 I took a look at the menu and noticed some more exotic rolls were included in this special. Omelet roll anyone?
