Cosmopolitan Cafe: Where Egg Creams And Crepes Go Hand In Hand

The lowest part of Manhattan doesn’t have many lunch spots that I would term “whimsical” but I think I’ve found the closest thing at Cosmopolitan Cafe’s soda fountain on W. Broadway (at Chambers). It’s a tiny space, focused on the soda and ice cream fountain in the back but they also serve amenu entirely under $10 consisting of crepes and a few daily specials like a burger and sandwiches. Look for the smiling ice cream cones on the scaffolding next to the entrance – and don’t get it confused with the pricier cafe around the corner on Chambers. Multiple Mobile Mexican Options Today: If yesterday was a feast, today is a little bit of a famine on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker. If you're in the mood for Mexican, Jalapeno Truck is on Hudson & Clarkson, and San Luis is on Front. Sweetery and Kimchi Taco are on Hudson, Mexicue's on Water and La Cense is on Wall.

Empire Asian Clumps Three Cuisines Together In One Convenient Location

It’s always a little sketchy when a place tries to cook three different cuisines in one place, but that’s what Empire Asian on Murray St. (btw. Broadway & Church) is doing. It’s a little hidden behind scaffolding, sandwiched between the Copper Barrel bar and a Muscle Maker Grill. A signboard out front alerts you that they have Chinese, Japanese AND Thai food, and lunch specials starting at $6.95, although it looked like some of the sushi was more in the $10 area. Otherwise they have your standard katsu, pad thai, maki roll trifecta. They should really think about cross-pollination, like general tso’s sushi.

Did Centre Melts Make Me A Grilled Cheese Convert?

Here’s a confession: I’m not a huge fan of grilled cheese. That was why I was kind of perplexed when I heard there was more than one truck devoted to this sandwich hitting the streets of New York City, and after eating at the first one to launch, I was even more confused. Why would people pay nearly $10 for two slices of bread with some cheese in it? Couldn’t I make this at home with little effort? Centre Melts, one of the new kiosks around 1 Centre St., opened a while back and I was curious if it was going to be any better than the mobile competition. To the analysis! Read more »

Soho Has Two Mobile Cupcake Options Today: You can always tell it's Wednesday when all of the food trucks migrate downtown. Today on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker we have Frying Dutchmen and Bistro Truck on Water, Korilla BBQ on Front and Bian Dang on Coenties Slip. Cupcake Stop and Gorilla Cheese are on Varick, Cupcake Crew and Big D's are on Hudson, and Wafels and Dinges has a cart at Greenwich & Murray and the truck at Hanover Sq. Desi Food Truck is on Broad with vegetable biryani and La Cense is on Wall.

FiDi’s Patuca Shutters Without Explanation

A tip of the hat to a couple of people on Twitter who sent word that Patuca on John St. (btw. Dutch & Nassau) has closed.  A walk by yesterday afternoon confirmed it as the doors were wide open and things inside were already boxed up and being moved out although there was no note on the door giving a reason for the sudden closing. I can’t say I ever got anything there other than the odd bagel in the morning but it seemed to be a step above most of the generic deli-type places in the area so I’m sure a lot of you will be bummed.
