Midtown Lunch

If you are a Top Chef fan or a fan of Kosher Mexican food you’ll want to take a late lunch and head to Pitopia (on B’way + 37th) today at 2pm, where recent Top Chef contestant Katsuji Tanabe will be doing a pop up of his popular Los Angeles restaurant Mexikosher. (Originally it was scheduled for 2pm 6pm but they moved it up to accommodate demand.)  It’s a little bit more money than we like spend on lunch, but Kosher food is expensive, and it’s way cheaper than a plane ticket to L.A.

Not doing anything on Sunday and stuck in the city? Jersey resident but would rather go to the dentist than DTS? Come on over to Midtown on 37th and Broadway, where you can participate in Pitopia’s 2nd-annual falafel-ball-eating contest! And the prizes aren’t too shabby either.  First place gets an iPad mini, and 2nd and 3rd places get $200 and $100 gift certificates to Pitopia respectively. Make sure to sign up on their Facebook before you open your mouth wide for falafeley goodness.

Today is Yom Haazmaut (who knew!?) and two celebrate Pitopia (on Broadway & 37th) has got two pretty great deals going today.  A $3.65 shawarma and pita would be an amazing deal, if they weren’t also offering falafel in pita for just 65 cents.  Neither deal is valid on delivery and it looks like you have to print out the coupons to score it.  Click on the icons above for larger versions, or print the coupons off of their Facebook page.

Pitopia, the falafel place on Broadway and 37th that shocked everyone by winning the Midtown Lunch best falafel reader’s poll last year, has been open for one full year now.  And to celebrate their first anniversary they’ll be giving away free falafel sandwiches all day long today-  starting now until 11pm tonight, and is only available in store.

This just in for those of you who procrastinated a bit with lunch today… just like Pitopia on Facebook and print this coupon and you can score a falafel sandwich for under $1 today (Pitopia is on Broadway & 37th).  Oh who are we kidding, even if you’ve already eaten lunch this might be worth it.

Pitopia opened in November, and it proceeded to narrowly overtake falafel favorite Taim in the 2011 readers’ poll. It’s pretty shocking for a newbie to win over Midtown — we are, after all, a pretty tough crowd — so quickly and easily and with such stiff competition. I’m of the mind that Taim is one of the best trucks on our streets today, but since they clearly must be doing something right at Pitopia, I finally went to check it out.
