Bone chilling weather is finally here and that means soup time! My old go to soup place was Soup Spot (31st btw 7+8th Ave) but since I’m no longer on the west side, I had to find a new place to get soup. I couldn’t think of any place besides Hale & Hearty but I didn’t want to go there. While going through my stack of take-out menus I saw that Mangu (on 45th btw. Lex+3rd) has a “Dominican Hearty Soup”. Last time I was there I had a very good stewed goat so I had high hopes for their soup.

Ever since Mangu (45th btw 3rd+Lex) opened last month, every few days coworkers would come up to me and asked if I had tried this place yet. I told them that I have not and they seem to be quite disappointed. Finally I decided to give Mangu a try after taking a look at their menu for Monday (they have different items for each day of the week) and saw they had stewed goat ($9.95). I don’t eat enough goat so stewed goat for lunch it was.
Couple weeks ago we brought you news that Mangu Dominican (45th btw. Lex+3rd) was getting ready to open and had gave us a first look at their menu. They finally opened this week and I took a peek inside. Check out the photos after the jump.
A few months ago we reported that signage had gone up for Mangu Dominican on 45th btw. Lex+3rd, and wondered what exactly a full on Dominican place would serve. Well, the owners emailed us yesterday to say that they plan on opening next week and they sent along a copy of the menu. Check it out after the jump…
Thanks to Lunch’er “Moonji” for sending along this tip last week… “Just saw the attached sign this afternoon, on 45th between 3rd and Lex (where the old Tasti-D used to be). Hope it’s something reasonable and delicious! Their website is up but no menu/information up yet. I did see someone inside working on stuff.” Nice… could be good. We don’t really have a shortage of Latin food in Midtown, and Margon (on 46th btw. 6+7th) is actually run by Dominicans (despite calling themselves a Cuban restaurant.) But it will be cool to see a place that takes ownership of their Dominican heritage. More info as soon as we get it…
