Mangu’s Hearty Dominican Soup is Perfect for these Cold Days
Bone chilling weather is finally here and that means soup time! My old go to soup place was Soup Spot (31st btw 7+8th Ave) but since I’m no longer on the west side, I had to find a new place to get soup. I couldn’t think of any place besides Hale & Hearty but I didn’t want to go there. While going through my stack of take-out menus I saw that Mangu (on 45th btw. Lex+3rd) has a “Dominican Hearty Soup”. Last time I was there I had a very good stewed goat so I had high hopes for their soup.
For $7 (for the regular size and $12 for large), you get a decent sized cup of soup plus a cup of rice.
As you can see, the cup of soup is filled with big chunks of stuff (pork, chicken and yuca). The soup was really flavorful. The chunks of pork and chicken were all tender and the combination of those plus yuca, made a truly hearty soup. There was also pieces of celery that gave the soup a crunchy texture and a bit of freshness.
Yes, it was a little pricey for just soup but this was a really good soup. Heck I’d rather pay a little more for this than going to some generic deli soup place.

$7 for that!? “Decent-sized” is how many ounces, exactly?
