Caffe Bene is Open for Business

Caffe Benne

Well that didn’t take long. The ambitious South Korean coffee chain, Caffe Benne, is now open for business at 49th St and Broadway. The massive venue boasts plenty of seating, a book nook, gigantic flat screen TVs, pastries, doughnuts, gelato, and pre-packaged sandwiches. Oh, and there’s coffee as well, which on my visit a bit flat, but inoffensive. Check out the drinks menu and a peek at the interior after the jump.

  • I stopped in to look around yesterday and was surprised at how shockingly packed it was. I have to say the fresh liege waffles looked pretty good – I particularly liked the cream cheese topping idea. The donuts looked like they might be from DOUGH in Williamsburg (the blood orange donut certainly looked like it was). I didn’t stop at the counter to ask though… Anyone able to confirm that?

  • Checked it out today around 2PM, solely for the waffles. Place wasn’t too busy.

I ordered a sweet waffle with ricotta, fig sauce and almonds. Tasty little treat which is cooked while you wait. Only issue I see is that it’s way over priced at $6.48 including tax. Didn’t try the coffee.

Was there yesterday– they do serve DOUGH doughnuts. Gelato, hot chocolate, and caramel cinnamon misugaru were great!

Incredibly rude cashier. Asked for refund on waffle after waiting 20 min. They weren’t that busy, but staff was totally overwhelmed and in dire need of more training. Huge back up with mixed up orders sitting on the counter unclaimed. Lots of snippy attitude from staff. Waffle maker averaged one waffle every 10 min on two waffle irons that make four each. Manager fumbled with refund and did nothing while lippy cashier continued to berate the customer. Listen, I get that you want to be an actor, if you have a problem with serving customers quit the café. Don’t blame me for your lack of accomplishment.

The best part of this place is decoration. I love their Misugaru Frappe and Waffle as well, but the interior is just exquisite! I am so glad there is a place to relax with a cup of coffee in Times Square (Finally!).
