Best Midtown Street Meat: 2011 Readers’ Poll
It’s time for the 2011 Midtown Lunch Readers’ Poll. Your nominations are in, and between now and the end of the year we’ll be asking all of you to vote for the best Midtown Lunches in a whole range of categories. You can only vote once per category (so choose wisely), and official results will be posted after the new year.
Every year a select group of Midtown Lunchers convene in Bryant Park for a giant chicken and lamb over rice taste off known as Street Meat Palooza. This year Comme Ci Comme Ca shocked everybody by taking the title with their unique brand of chicken and lamb merguez over rice with white sauce and hot sauce. Agree or disagree, here’s your chance to sound off. And with last year’s winner Kwik Meal shedding customers from a recent price hike, it could be anybody’s game this year. Here are the nominees for best street meat in Midtown:
- Comme Ci Comme Ca
- Fahima Halal
- Kwik Meal/Kwik Gourmet
- SW Corner of 53rd and 6th (“Imposter Halal Cart”)
- “Famous Halal Guys” (SE Corner of 53rd and 6th & NW Corner of 52nd & 6th)
- Trini Paki Boys Cart
- Uncle Gussy’s
- XPL
Vote for your favorite after the jump…

I am an absolute fan of Chef Amir’s chicken and rice! It comes with a bit of spinach salad, there’s some onion chutney in it – it’s really delicious! Normally, when I get chicken and rice from any other street cart, the spices overwhelm me about halfway through and I can’t finish it, but I will INHALE the Comme Ci Comme Ca chicken and rice.
