Subway on 45th St & 3rd Ave, NYC

On my way to Oms/B the other day (one of my favorite Midtown Lunch spots on 45th St. btw. 3rd+Lex) I noticed an eviction notice plastered on the door of the Subway on 3rd Ave.+45th.  This site is all about finding the alternative to Subway, so clearly I’m not going to miss the foot-long subs I never ate-  however if for some reason this Subway was your go-to spot (I’m not cool enough to say “I pity da fool…” but there you go. I typed it.), maybe this will be just the motivation you need to try far superior sandwiches like Oyster Bar’s Grilled and Sliced Tuna Sandwich with Tomato Salsa or the small but mighty ones at ‘wichcraft!  No word on what will take this Subway’s place, but it would be particularly gratifying to see something good replace it (since it feels like more and more it’s the other way around these days.)

  • Streetmeas–I gotta ask if you have any tips on preparation of the M+M sandwich? I can’t imagine it would be good, but now I am curious.

    • No real tip BUT I think if you like Peanut Butter, then a PB & M&M’S sandwich will work!!! I just ate it straight up with white bread when I was a kid (who didn’t care as much about being heavy-set or unhealthy habits like overdoing carbs and candy).

I think it also had to do with Al Bundy and his Tang-wiches. If a guy can eat orange powder on white bread, the sky’s the limit?

Cold cuts, bbq potato chips or crunchy cheez doodles, and mayo on white bread was a fav.

    • I think embedding the M&M’s into nutella that’s spread onto the white bread would be cool. Add peanut butter if desired. Heck, throw a sliced banana on there too!

What episode was the Tang-wich? I don’t remember that one!

(Time to break out the m&m’s, nutella, peanut butter and matzoh….)

  • Nutella works. Heck, even almond butter or any of the other nuts.

I don’t know the specific episode but he’s renouned for making them. He even made a toothpaste sandwich. ;P

  • Ahhh…and now it all makes sense. As Al Bundy is one of my all time heroes, I should have known where the m+M sandwich idea derived from. I remember tangwich, toothpastewich, and my all time favorite, weenie tots….

all those M+M sandwich ideas would work I suppose. I just need to get me some M+Ms… I think I will start with the plain wonderbread/M+M combo just to live a little “Street meas” first.

Subway? We’re really scraping the bottom of the bottom for filler now.

It’s no sin to not have content when there is none.
