NYC Cravings Brings Good Shumai to Midtown

Cravings Pork Shumai

I don’t need to remind anybody about the disgusting weather we had last Thursday and Friday, but nothing was going to keep me from trying NYC Cravings pork shumai especially after seeing this foggy picture. Cheap, good shumai is high on my “What We Need in Midtown” list, and Cravings delivered!

Dumpling innards are after the jump…

Inside Pork Shumai

I waited about 15 minutes in the slushy cold rain and did the 6 block walk back to my office before I could devour my double order. Amazingly, the shumai stayed hot in their Styrofoam containers despite the cold walk back. Though I had seen the pictures I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of meat contained by these perfect thin wrappers, about two bites each. The meat itself was nicely spiced good pork, a bit greasy, but not fatty. My $10 order, the double order plus a vegetarian Zongzi, was a little too much food for me, making this a perfect lunch. Yes, lunch perfection is achieved when I’m full and there’s food left.

NYC Cravings spends Mondays on 48th btw. 6+7th, but you should consult their twitter account or the ML Twitter Tracker before heading out… just to be safe.

hmm… guess i will have to try them, i liked their other dumplings but they were too small… even after a double order i was still pretty hungry

just wish they parked in the sun when they are around flatiron… dear god that block on 24th street is like an arctic wind tunnel and standing their for food (although worth it) is tough

  • No shrimp in the siu mai? Just seasoned pork? Hhmmm. It’s a dumpling pretty much though.

    QFT. They were delicious.

  • I just ate them for lunch. They were very good, but i love the regular steamed pork dumplings. If you don’t like the doughy texture of the regular steamed pork dumplings, then go for the shumai. Whatever, you order make sure you get the dumpling sauce with your order; it makes a huge difference.

In total i order 4 shumai, 4 dumplings, and a order of rice. I’m still hungry, but it is enough food to satisfy someone with a small appetite. I wish they sold 5 dumplings for a $3 – then i might be satisfied. Until then, I’ll have to peruse the vending machine options after lunch.
