PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Rachael”

Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Rachael, a publicist who loves eating BLTs in the summertime.

Name: Rachael

Age: 29

Occupation: Publicist

Where in Midtown do you Work?: CUNY Grad Center 5th and 35th

Favorite Kind of Food: Nachos. Also: raw tuna belly, oysters, fried chicken, pomegranates,
concord grapes, homemade pickles, cheeseburgers, Bun thit nuong, street cart cinnamon buns

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Pre-made sandwiches, gummy ice cream, overboiled eggs.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Spicy Masala Dosa at Minar (on 46th btw. 6+7th), Chocolate rice donut from Zaiya (on 41st btw. Mad+5th), Falafel Laffa from Olympic Pita (38th btw. 5+6th), Lazarras (38th btw. 6+7th), and of course there is the always fun game of chicken and rice plate roulette.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Co-workers eat much from the Grad Center Cafeteria. I tried it once. It’s not a bad place to sit and eat food from elsewhere. I eat pizza from Little Italy on 33rd at least three times a week, and keep going back to Woorijip (on 32nd btw. 5th+B’way) even though it’s usually disappointing. I like value.

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Kati Roll (on 39th btw. 5+6th), Tio Pio (on 36th btw. 5+6th), Zaiya, Newstand deli chaat indian place (on 6th btw. 37+38th).

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? San Francisco, for Shalimar, Tu Lan, Can Cun, Swan Oyster Depot…

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? Since summer is just around the corner, where can I get a lovingly-made, delicious blt? (Also has anyone been to the Indian diner place on 31st between 5th and Madison? Any good?)

Got an answer for Rachael? Feel free to put it in the comments. And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email zach@midtownlunch.com.
