Reports poured in from Midtown Lunch’ers trying the Kwik Meal pasta cart for the first time today (on 45th and 6th), and despite early concern that Muhammed wouldn’t be able to pull off pasta from a cart- the reviews seem largely positive!

Lunch’er FileEditView is the first to comment:

Just went, Rahman was there in the pasta cart creating the orders and asking customers to sample before they left so he could get their feedback. Got the chicken w/ vegetables — fairly delicious, no visible sauce but definitely a bit of a kick. I would probably get it again, but if they had other options besides angel hair it would be better.

Pasta photos and more, are after the jump…

Got this email from Lunch’er “Matthew” a few minutes later:

There’s a nice set up in the cart, even with the “Angle” Hair spelling, does no one ever proof read these signs? The shrimp looked very good but I opted for vegetables, includes onions, zucchini, fresh mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, chopped fresh tomatoes and string beans. Mohammed was constantly seasoning and tasting the sauce, I must’ve been one of the first customers, still getting in the groove. The sauce is very well seasoned, the vegetables taste great, and for $6 it’s a pretty huge serving. Will definitely get back for the shrimp and chicken some time soon.

And finally Lunch’er “Stephen” sends over a look at the actual pasta…

“Pasta isn’t bad. Its a lot of food for 5.99. Its got some kick, same chicken as the halal dishes. Veggies are good and fresh. Sauce is decent. 15 min wait to get it, its still a new process to them.”

I don’t know what you guys think, but this actually sounds pretty good to me. Not smothered in sauce, a nice kick, plus the same chicken you get in the halal dishes. And most importantly no complaints of mushiness… Muhammad might have another winner on his hands.

  • g’morning Sergeant Angle

  • Now bring on the DocChuck-esque comments of how you can make angel hair pasta at home for less money and with better ingredients, etc etc etc

[ … though, this is one case I’d *probably* agree with such posts, but I digress… ]

  • I think DocupChuck participated in the UES poll, hence Applebees winning not only the best Midtown bar/restaurant but Bronx and Queens too.

  • I think the spelling is accurate. Angel hair pasta is named the way it is because the pasta is fine and delicate, as we imagine an angel’s hair would be. “Angle hair”, on the other hand, is the kind of hair you’d imagine someone like Kurt Angle might have. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Angle

“After dropping the WWE United States Championship to Edge, the duo were booked into a lengthy feud. During this feud, Edge started the “you suck” chants every time Kurt Angle entered a WWE ring, usually in tune with Angle’s entrance music. This proved significant because the chants followed Angle throughout the rest of his WWE career. In the course of the feud, Angle lost a “hair versus hair” match to Edge at Judgment Day, and his head was shaved bald, as Edge told the crowd to chant “you’re bald”.[51] Following the loss of his hair, Angle’s storyline called for him to wear a wig and insult bald people,[52] leading to a feud with Hollywood Hogan, who stripped Angle of his wig.[53] Angle later scored a submission victory over Hogan at King of the Ring.[54]”

  • That pasta looks dry as hell.

    @Cosilicious

maybe he can open a restaurant in midtown and call it “angle’s hair pasta” although that sounds really suggestive for some reason?

  • HAHAHA hilarious!

  • This guy can do no wrong in my book! I hit Kwik Meal again Fri night (after hitting it Wed night) and while they did charge me the normal price (not 6.50 like the first night), it was even BIGGER than the first portion I got! 5 falafal balls and TONS of lamb! One piece was a little fatty, but max didn’t seem to mind….I will DEFINITELY be hitting this new endeavour very soon!

  • @D: The pasta was actually very moist, and there was sauce to be found. Just enough sauce, actually, so it wasn’t sopping with water or anything. Chicken was indeed the same chicken served at the regular Kwik Meal, but that chicken is so flavorful it lends itself well to pasta. Plenty of garlic, herbs, and not too much sundried tomato to keep it from being overpowering. Over all, well worth the money and tasty to boot!

  • we are well on our way to an NYC garbage plate, ha ha!

  • I like angle hair pasta with Isoceles sauce.

  • I tried the ANGLE hair with chicken yesterday and the 2 guys I can tell were really serious about their food. One chef asked me to taste the AH and I told them it was good, he was happy. Honestly though the recipe needs improvement. Something about the flavor’s off, and if it doesn’t change, this cart ain’t gonna last.

  • Let me get this straight.

    – The chef asked your opinion.
    – In response you told him it was good.
    – Yet your real opinion is that the flavor’s off and the cart probably wont last.

Do you have issues with honesty in general? :)

  • If a ‘cook’ were to sit something that looked like that (the garbage plate pictured above) in front of me, the ‘cook’ would be wearing it.

That’s my opinion, but then I am a bit particular about WHAT I eat, in addition to WHERE I eat it.

  • Misspellings always crack me up. Even when it’s my own misspelling. Is misspelling misspelled? Now I don’t know.

  • Normal person receiving a dinner cooked for them by another: “thank you!”

DocChuck receiving a dinner cooked for him by another: “after you finish cleaning that off your face where I threw it, make me something else, and it better be good this time, or else”

  • adam- it was good, but just not good enough, depends on your taste but it felt like a plate of pasta coming right out of a chinese canteen. can’t describe it, go try it out for yo-self.
