PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Maisey” PLUS Rock of Ages Tix Giveaway
Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. I grew up on cheesy 80s hair metal, so I’m pretty excited for this week’s Profiled Lunch’er. Meet Maisey, part of the cast of Broadway’s “Rock of Ages”. She likes Asian food, savory crepes, and she’s got 3 pairs of tickets to Rock of Ages to give away at the end of the profile…
Name: Maisey
Age: Old enough…
Occupation: Performer-Actress/Singer –currently playing “Justice” in ROCK OF AGES
Where in Midtown do you Work?: Brooks Atkinson Theatre (on 47th btw. B’way+8th)
Favorite Kind of Food: Asian- Chinese/Japanese/Thai
Least Favorite Kind of Food: I’m really allergic to Shrimps
Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: For sushi I like Aoki (on 48th btw. B’way+8th). I always sit in front of the waterfall wall and have the spicy trio-tuna, yellowtail & salmon tartar with caviar and a quail egg. Fabulous!! Room Service a glam/chic but very affordable Thai Restaurant on 9th and 48th is awesome too- I always order the pad see-eu with Duck and their insane pumpkin flan dessert… warm and yummy with a kiss of coconut!!
“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? The Thalia Kitchen on 50th just East of 8th has the best soup ever… very exotic sometimes
If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Back to Malaysia-they served sate on grills in the street all night-chicken, beef, rabbit, goat, lamb the list was endless and it was soooo good!!!
Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? Is there a place near my theatre (47th and Broadway) I can get a good savory crepe???
Funny you should mention crepes… the best crepes in Midtown are made by this French lady named Madeleine inside the Cyber Cafe on 49th btw. 7+8th. That’s about as close to your theater as you can get!
As for the tickets… got a suggestion near the theater for Maisey? It doesn’t have to be crepes… it could be for anything close to the theater. Put it in the comments and you’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. Winners will be drawn at random, on Friday at Noon. Good luck!
And as always if you’d like to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email me at zach@midtownlunch.com.

zach mentioned the only crepe place i know about
-
I’d like to hear more about Room Service, I’ve walked by it a few times but also assumed it’d be overpriced-gimmicky thai. Looking at the menu it actually seems pretty well-priced. Is the food any good?
Minar is pretty close to the theater and they have dosas. Not quite a savory crepe, but maybe it’ll do the trick. 46th btw 7th and 6th ave.
-
Room Service actually has an interesting crepe-like version of pad thai. It’s pad thai in a think egg crepe-like wrap.
-
I like to mix it up with Breeze on 9th, sort of a french/thai mix.
-
room service is surprisingly good but chili thai on 49th and 9th is better
-
Ohh tickets. Awesome but no clue on crepes place in theatre district though.
Hooray for her love of Asian foods!
-
Get your Thai fix at Pam Real Thai or Chili Thai, you won’t be disappointed, and you will spend less then $20!
-
I am with Streetmeas on this, but I’d love to win the tickets… :-)
-
Tehuitzingo. Out of bounds but close to the theater
-
FREAK OF THE WEEK!
-
Room service is good…but their pad ke mao is complete garbage.
pad ke mao > pad thai
-
Just buy a bloody ticket you cheap fuckers!
-
I am not cheap. I am careful with money
-
Glass House Tavern might be a good experience for you, and close by the theater.
-
KATI ROLLS > Crepes! Briyani Cart @ 46th and 6th!!!
I will now have to try all these thai places she recommended. I always feel there isn’t any decent thai places around here. -
Sushiden on 49th and 6th never disappoints!
Trattoria Trecolori right next door to the theater has been a pleasant Italian experience before showtime.
-
La Rosita Grocery & Taqueria in Manhattan’s Hells Kitchen has great tacos and sopes. Cheap and delicious. Check it out!
-
If I worked near you, I’d get really fat on the baked goods at Poseidon Bakery (9th Ave between 44th & 45th). The best.
-
There is a great cart that is usually on 53rd between 5th and 6th- right by the moma store. Know it’s a little “far” but they have a ton on crepes there.
-
Cheap delicious Thai at Chili Thai 9th ave between 48th and 49th
-
Empanada Mama (9th Ave between 50th & 51st)
Phenomenal empanadas of all kinds–both authentic & “americanized” It’s a good thing I don’t live or work near there because otherwise I’d be a blimp! -
Not sure about crepes, but you can get some great Mexican food at Toloache. It’s my fave in that hood.
-
How about Sapporo for some nice ramen? Quick, cheap and tasty. You could get Hiyashi Chuka for the summertime.
Sapporo
152 W 49th St
(between Avenue Of The Americas & 7th Ave)

Rudy – we’re not all made of money like you actually are and DocChuck has delusions thereof
-
There is a traveling crepes cart that sometimes stands on 51st between 6th & 7th. I had the sweet crepes once and it was awesome. Savory is probably just as good.
Suggestion # 2 – another sushi option would be Iroha (49th bwtn 6th & 7th). not cheap, but great quality.
-
totally out of bounds, but this savory crepe was featured on Downtown Lunch: the banh xeo at Pho So 1
-
Rude, I don’t care if I’m cheap/ frugal/ thrifty.
I like food but you don’t see me throwing away money on fancy sandwiches often (maybe once likw with Cer Te and Mantao and if ever with other places) so what makes you think I would spend on something I can’t eat…One of my favorite meals in Theatre District would have to be Street Meats. Can’t go wrong with 53rd/6th, Biryani Cart, and Little Morocco just to name a few…
-
The Room Service thai in Chelsea is MUCH better but this one is also great. Their spring rolls with plum dipping sauce are $3 and so amazing. I get their pineapple fried rice and it is also realllyy good.
The decor is modern and uses purple and chandeliers. Very cute place!

Best Qoute from the Edinbrough Festival(Where the Present Mrs.McBagel is wandering around…trying to give two very giggle 8 yr olds’culture’)
” All the American tourist thinks the Castle is a High school as there is gun fire every lunch time”
-
Room Service gave me bad scrimps. I might vom just thinking about it. I guess that’s not a problem if you’re allergic.
-
It’s out of Midtown Lunch price range, but for a nice dinner, I like Nocello on 55th between Bway and 8th. I think they may even be open after a show ends. Good Italian, especially the chicken with eggplant. Yum!
-
Not at all in ML price range, but for something very near the Brooks Atkinson theater, I remind that Blue Fin at the W hotel is still running the Restaurant “Week” lunch special through Labor Day — $24.07 for 3 courses at a restaurant that’s never disappointed me.
-
La Creperie @ 2608 Broadway
-
Or- Crepe Suzette Restaurant which is much closer to the theater.
-
I always eat at The Mean Fiddler when I’m near the BAT & you can’t get much closer.
-
Maisey and I share the same birthday- didn’t know we share a love for crepes as well.
I love the food, the staff and the ambiance at the Brasserie Athenee on the corner of 46th and 8th- sooo close to the Brooks Atkinson theater and open 7 days until 1 a.m. It’s especially fine for a quiet after-show/stage door meal.
-
why not korean?
-
Room Service has the best Pad Thai Crepes in that area :) so good!
-
Not exactly a crepe and not exactly that close to the theater but try getting the scallion pancakes at any of the Korean joints on 32nd st (Won Jo, etc).
Also, I’m not sure it’s on their regular menu or if you are allergic (considering your shrimp allergy) but I had a mussel pancake at Pongsri Thai (48th st and 23rd st locations) with a chili dipping sauce that was pretty awesome.
-
caught the afternoon show on July 4th. Loved it.
-
I’ll have to try some of these places!
Last time I was in the city I ate at a Thai place called Q2 Thai on 9th Ave 52nd/53rd I loved the Vegetable Dumplings, Spring Rolls, and Drunken Noodles. I’m a Vegetarian, so I liked that they had some veggie dishes.
-
Ocha Sushi. 350 West 46th Street. BY 8th Avenue. Great lunch specials and better the Aoki. Good delivery service.
-
Shimizu on 51st between 8th and 9th has great sushi and other Japanese dishes. It’s more expensive than the ML criteria but it’s good.
-
This is a few blocks away, but it’s a fave for pre-theater dinner, for my friends and I: Sapporo – W 49th b/t 6th and 7th ave. I want to see Rock of Ages!
-
i work in the theater district too. my most favorite restaurant (though out of midtown lunch range) is Toloache (50th b/w bway and 8th). I’ve been there several times and each time i go it is delicious! for a cheaper fix – try the kati rolls at spice fusion (8th ave b/w 47th and 48th).

go out of ML boundaries and hit up pam’s real thai. it’s maybe two avenue blocks from the theatre
