Sign of Summer: Mr. Softee Traffic Jam
Got this pretty funny photo and email from Lunch’er Harry on Friday. Spotted on the West side of 55th and 6th: “There was was one Mr. Softee truck on EACH corner and another one pulled up into the intersection. I think he was looking for a spot too.”

i once saw a truck that said Master Softee…i did not try it.

Here’s the problem: those are not all Mister Softee trucks! One is Mister Softee, the other is the anonymous “Soft Ice Cream” and the other, who knows? But they are all ripping off the Mister Softee colors, and making it impossible to find really good soft ice cream. There are too many rip-offs: Mister Soft (ugh), Mr. Soft-T, etc. I know this is more about lunch than about ice cream, but Zach, can’t you help us separate the what from the chaff? I had a godawful cone from a “Soft Ice Cream” truck and I can’t bear a whole summer of it.

@6th ave: even the Mister Softee trucks have fallen off with their crap ice cream! I have been happy with the Mister Softee offerings in Brooklyn and Queens… most of the time.
