Certe’s Lobster Roll is $9 (For One Day Only)

I had heard about the mysterious take-out only lobster roll offered as an occasional lunch special at Certe (on 55th btw. 5+6th), but at $11.75 it’s usually out of the Midtown Lunch price range… except for tomorrow. We’ve gotten word that for one day only (Friday, May 22) Certe will be offering their lobster roll for $8.95 (take out only.) There is nothing like a lobster roll to get your Memorial Day weekend kicked off right… except maybe the bacon implosion. This could be a really tough decision. Anybody had the Certe lobster roll before? Let us know in the comments if it’s worth it.

  • Ugh.

I convinced two of my usually uncooperative coworkers to venture out with me–after ensuring them it wasn’t yet another sketchy cart.

The “roll,” if it could be called, that is certainly full of filler. Dominating red onions. A bunch of corn. Blasphemous tomatoes. Even a hint of parsely.

All of that said, I still enjoyed it. I was let down, to be sure, to find that it wouldn’t be served on a buttery warm NE-style roll. But once I was over my initial dissapointment, I unwrapped it, emptied it into the container and made a serviceable lobster-on-a-sald lunch out of it.

Maybe worth 7-8 bucks. 9.40 (with tax) was a tad much.

  • Props to those who benefitted from our collective misery, and upgraded to the roll. Knowing this, I feel that the unfortunate early adopters have not toiled in vain.

The mere fact that they laughed about serving a “lobster roll on a roll” makes me think they knew exactly what kind of shit they were pulling, here. Bastards. Now I’m going to have to hit Fairway this weekend for a proper under $10 lobsta roll (and coleslaw with no superfluous ingredients).

  • We would like to apologize to everyone who was disappointed by the Lobster ‘Roll’ Special. In the future we hope to prevent this by providing a more thorough explanation of our food items when featuring them as specials. The special was done to honor loyalists of the sandwich- we have regular customers who order it every Friday. In this assumption, we isolated new customers and neglected to familiarize you with our style of the sandwich.

It is a lobster salad and it is a wrapped sandwich, we make it with our home made flat bread. We had no intention of being deceptive in this manner. In terms of ingredients, corn is often used as a compliment to lobster. In the future there will be no onions in the ‘corn salsa’ that is put in the sandwich.

As always, we appreciate feedback from the Midtown Lunch Community. Please e-mail your favorite lobster roll from the area to Marketing@certenyc.com, we will duplicate the most popular sandwich and offer a “classic version” on special, this July 3rd for the same price of $8.95

Please continue to visit our café, share your opinion and as always- be passionate about lunch!

    Thank You,
Chef Edward and the staff at Cer te
