Favorite Kind of Food: Fresh, authentic Mexican.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: German food (sorry, ancestors).

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: falafel at Mama’s Vegetarian (18 S. 20th Street), green curry at Banana Leaf (1009 Arch Street), smoked salmon wrap at Mugshots Café (2106 Fairmount Avenue), magic bars at Sweet Freedom gluten-free vegan bakery (1424 South Street)–who says you can’t have chocolate for lunch?

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Moira”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Moira, a cheese loving, oyster shucking lady working in the restaurant industry.

Where in Philly do you Work?: Passyunk Ave.

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything smothered in cheese.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Thanksgiving fare: turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, etc.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: Erawan has the best lunch special in the city, and I’m a sucker for their panang curry. Garces Trading Co. always has some sort of delicious sandwich and too-good-to-be-healthy desserts. Bitar’s has great falafel and it’s usually pretty quiet. And if I can eat myself into a food coma without needing to go to work after, I’ll head to Good Dog or Royal Tavern for a burger and a beer.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: Smith’s– yummy, buttery mussles (19th and Chestnut); Giwa— Bi Bim Bop sizzle bowl (16th and Sansom); Oyster House– the OH Burger (with a fried oyster on top) is going to blow your mind! (15th and Sansom)

Where in Philly do you Work?: Mt. Laurel, NJ

Favorite Kind of Food: Asian-y stuff.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: I will eat anything you put in front on me, but (non-fried) chicken is usually pretty boring.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: The dude at 20th & Market for his falafel; its by far the best in the city. The lemongrass tofu banh mi at Q.T. Vietnamese (10th & Arch), usually supplemented by dessert from K.C. Pastries (10th & Arch-ish) and a couple lamb skewers from Solo (next to Q.T.). If your job is permissive about liquid lunches, Jose Pistola’s (15th & Spruce) frequently has Friday afternoon beer events and Monk’s (16th & Spruce) is way less crowded than during the evening.

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Becca”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Becca, who along with last week’s profiled luncher Claire, blogs for Downtowndwell and made that quail ravioli that got 3rd place at the Philly Cheese Experiment.

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything pickled or spicy

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Licorice

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: I like eating in the Italian Market. I love going to Taqueria La Veracruzana (9th and Washington) for carnitas tacos. 943 (943 S. 9th Street) has really interesting Argentinian and Italian food. One of my favorite lunch spots is Sarcones (9th and Fitzwater) where I get whatever special sandwich they have for the day!

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Claire, whose quail ravioli got 3rd place at the Philly Cheese Experiment.

Where in Philly do you Work?: CHOP

Favorite Kind of Food:I’m a sucker for things on a menu with any of the following: beets, kale, Brussels sprouts, goat cheese, fresh mozzarella, and scallops.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: radishes, turnips, maraschino cherries

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: Tyson Bee’s (33 & Spruce) has killer lemon grass chicken, and their curry of the week with tofu is cheap and always has a perfect kick to it; Magic Carpet (34 & Spruce) for great falafel or a tofu  meatball sandwich. Tacos Don Memos (38 & Sansom) has amazing tacos even though it’s a bit further of a walk – at least you can call in your order ahead! For a nicer lunch spot, Baby Blues BBQ (34 & Sansom) has a great Catfish Po’boy, made awesome with their XXX hot sauce.

Where in Philly do you Work?: South Broad Street

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything with bacon in it. And of course, until I learn my mother’s recipes, I’m always in the search of the perfect Pakistani meal, i.e. chicken and rice.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Doesn’t exist

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: For comfort food, the $11 fried chicken lunch special every Thursday at Meme on 22nd and Spruce can’t be beat. Mi Lah Vegetarian on 218 South 16th Street prepares a tofu banh mi covered in spicy veganaise that easily rivals anything you find on Washington Avenue. Philadelphia Chutney Company on 16th and Samson makes great South Indian food. Be sure to check Twitter and Facebook for their daily special deals. Try any of their dosa combinations and don’t forget to order a mango lassi to go. Mumbai Bistro has fresh North Indian eats that go easy on the wallet. I highly recommend garlic naan and Maaza guava juice with any meal you order. And last, but not least, Jamaican Jerk Hut on 14th and
South makes a jerk chicken leg quarter platter that will make you weep with pleasure.
