Five Guys 48th is Now Open: Just got the official word: the new Five Guys on 48th btw. 5+6th is open for business. We're guessing it will look like this in 3...2...1... Also of note today (according to the ML Twitter Tracker) Miss Softee is on 44th, Schnitzel is on 46th, Rickshaw is on 52nd, Frites N Meats is on 48th, Jamaican Dutchy is on 51st, and there's free BBQ in Columbus Circle.

Soup Nazi to Return on July 20th: Yesterday Flo Fab officially confirmed the rumor that Al Yeganeh aka the Soup Man aka the Soup Nazi, will reopen Soup Kitchen International (on 55th & 8th) on July 20. The chicken chili from the original SKI was my splurge lunch back in the day, and I loved how each of the soups came with its own side. The Soup Man franchise tried, but just wasn't the same.

Free BBQ Alert: The argument over whether Virgil's is decent or terrible has never been officially decided here on ML, but what about free Virgil's? Tomorrow (Tuesday, 6/22) a truck promoting some new TV show on TNT will be parked in Columbus Circle from 11am to 3pm handing out free servings of Memphis BBQ from Virgil's. Go forth freeloaders...

Yakitori Torys to Become Totto Ramen?: Eater is reporting that Yakitori Torys, Midtown East's answer to Yakitori Totto, closed over the weekend- and will be converted into a ramen joint in the next two weeks. I guess Totto Ramen is doing pretty well then? Of course all this news is moot to us until Ramen Totto does the right thing and opens for lunch!!!

No Schnitzel For Midtown: Sad day for schnitzel fans on the ML Twitter Tracker. Filming on 52nd has sent Schnitzel & Things to Dumbo. But Flatiron pizza fans should be excited that Eddie's Pizza Truck will be on Park Ave. btw. 26+27th, playing the World Cup on their big TV. Also, Treats Truck and Rickshaw are on 45th, Frites and Meats is on 48th and Miss Softee is on 44th.

El Guayaquileño Cart is MIA? Ay! Qué pena!: Just got a sad tip from Lunch'er "Wayne" about El Guayaquileño, the Ecuadorian truck on 37th btw. 7+8th: "Have you heard/seen anything about the El Guayaquileño Cart lately? I tried to go several times over the last few weeks and they appear to be MIA". Damnit! Where are we going to go for our goat stew fix? If anybody has seen this cart around, let us know in the comments.

SENY Takes Jack’s 99 Cent Sushi Challenge: Had a bit of deja vu reading Serious Eats: New York yesterday, which for some unknown reason decided to try the sushi from Jack's 99 Cent Store, along with frozen pizza, mini quiches, some Israeli snack, and generic cereal. We don't see what's so worrisome about eating cooked eel and California rolls though... Mamacita ate the raw stuff back in Feburary!
