Flatiron News: Opening Season Continues

Every Friday our man UltraClay goes south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

Madison Square Eats may be over and done with until spring, but Flatiron Lunchers seem to have more options than ever with a new spate of restaurants opening over the last month. See what’s on it’s way or already here after the jump.

Mad Park News reports that Philly-centric beer bar, Shorty’s has opened up in 66 Madison Avenue, just next door to Choza Taqueria. The bar is home of the only proper Roast Pork sandwich I’ve had this side of the Hudson.

Eater confirmed Shorty’s opening along with news of a new Potbelly opening up on Broadway and 17th Street and an Italian restaurant called Tommy Lasagna, specializing in, you guessed it, Lasagna.

Slightly more dubious than a new restaurant focusing on lasagna is the old restaurant specializing in pancakes that is allegedly opening in The Limelight. According to The Real Deal, Grimaldi’s Manhattan is getting a new neighbor. The church turned drug den club turned boutique mall turned department store is said to be planning to open an IHOP in the next year. No word on whether this would affect Jezalin’s.

On a more uplifting note, Schnipper’s opened it’s Flatiron branch about a month ago a mere block from Shake Shack. I have yet to visit, but it’s high up on my to-eat list.

So, this fall certainly has brought a lot of new food options, stay tuned as we make our way through them all. If you’ve got tips about more new food popping up, send them to editor@midtownlunch.com.
