Testing Out the $10 Lunch Special at Ted’s Montana Grill

Ted's Montana Grill

I would never eat at Ted Montana Grill (on 51st btw. 6+7th).  What is this Mickey Mouse, owned by Ted Turner, we make bison burgers and are environmentally friendly BS. I’ve got much better places to eat lunch. What’s that you say?  They’re offering a $10 lunch special with mini burgers, meatloaf and more?  Well, I suppose I could check it out.  You know, for work purposes.

Twitter Tracker: Twitter blocked by work?  Follow the ML Twitter Tracker: The Vendy Award Dessert Finalists are being announced via Twitter today at 2pm, Schnitzel & Things is back today and hoping to park on 7th Ave. in the 30s, La Cense Burger Truck is on 47th btw. Park+Lex, and as is customary- a password for one free dinge at the W&D Truck.

El Rey Del Sabor Not Immune From the Cops

When it rains it pours. Got this email from Lunch’er Brian late yesterday afternoon: “El Rey Del Sabor on 43rd and 6th got a summons today, as did the old lady. Appears it was one of the buildings across the street. I was talking to the guys in the cart. They are really nice but they are concerned that the police are going to chase them from the spot. It’s possible this is fallout from the confrontation on Monday.

Forgot to Mention This Yesterday: After two weeks of vacation, the Street Sweets Truck has finally returned to action. They'll be parked on 53rd btw. 5+6th until 11am, and then 8th Ave. btw. 56+57th for the rest of the day.

NYC Cravings Makes Thursday a Midtown Day

Untitled-1

It looks like the NYC Cravings Truck is changing up their schedule a bit. Their Friday spot (on 53rd btw. Lex+Park) is now their Thursday spot, and Wednesdays and Fridays are now open (check their twitter or the ML Twitter Tracker to find out where they’ll be.) Mondays is still 45th & 6th. (And don’t forget about their off the menu porken special!)

City Comes Down Hard on Met Vendors: Need a real world example of what happens when too many vendors converge on a sought after spot previously occupied by one or two vendors at a time? The museum they're parked in front of decides it's too much, and rightly or wrongly the cops force everybody to leave. UPDATE: The Street Vendor Project weighs in on the issue.

I Got to Swig Wine at the Kwik Meal Cart With Gary Vaynerchuk

Who says wine can’t go with street food!  The latest episode of VendrTV is up, and features Gary Vaynerchuk (from Wine Library TV) pairing wine with food from the Kwik Meal Cart and the Dessert Truck (R.I.P.) VendrTV host Dan Delaney was nice enough to invite me out to Kwik Meal (fresh off their Street Meat Palooza 2 victory), so if you want to see us swigging wine on the corner of 45th and 6th, you’ll want to check out the video posted after the jump.  (Warning: I am not an attractive man.)

Lezzette’s Home-made Gyro is Pretty Interesting

Lezzette

My quest to find a real gyro sandwich in Midtown never takes a vacation. So when I spotted this sign on 34th btw. 8+9th in the window of Lezzette, my curiosity was piqued. Sure, it’s out of the technical Midtown Lunch boundaries. And Lezzette looks more like a generic Midtown deli, than an authentic Greek restaurant. But whatever. “Homemade Gyro”! How could I not?

Schnitzel Truck Responds: “It’s Not Our Fault!”

Apparently the Schnitzel & Things Truck didn’t like what I had to say this morning about the issues they had yesterday on 43rd & 6th Ave:

“Just saw your little piece on ML. To be quite honest I don’t really care who you side with. It doesn’t matter to us one bit. But one thing you should know is that our business DOES in fact rely on heavy foot traffic! And because I am on Twitter, it doesn’t give me the right to park where we feel we will get the most customers?

You side with the “old school” but your solution for us, to go find a quiet street isn’t actually a solution that works at all. Instead of siding maybe you should realize that it’s not our fault! There is a conflict situation at hand and I understand the other point of view just as much as you, but I have a business to run and I need to hit my targets on a daily basis to stay profitable. And if it means that I have to stand my ground and get threats from an ice cream guy, so be it.”

Where Do You Eat Lunch?: If you're a Serbian student, working a summer job with a moving company, you eat at Djerdan on 38th btw. 7+8th.  "It’s a Bosnian restaurant, but it’s the same food in Serbia. We used to be the same country, Yugoslavia. I can say there I feel like I’m at home."
