Organic Fast Food Suburbian Burgers at Elevation Burger

While seeking a snack in the suburbs (Ardmore, apparently? I am horrible with knowing where I am outside the city limits), we stopped at Elevation Burger for something fast and easy. Burgers here are super customizable and better ingredients are emphasized (organic, grass-fed, free-range, no-trans-fat, environmentally sustainable), but still pretty cheap.

Kennedy Food Garden Can Make You Feel Like A School Child

Kennedy Food Garden is a cafe that sits right on JFK. Besides a small selection of deli items like milk and chips, there is a counter to order sandwiches, salads, and comfort food, plus a little seating area if you want to stay a while. I decided to go real little kid with it, with a pita pizza! Read more »

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Penny”

Though we have been lacking volunteers lately, on certain Tuesdays we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Penny,  who works at Eviama Spa in Center City.

Name: Penny

Age: Three score +

Occupation: spa therapist – licensed skin care and massage; Reiki master

Where in Philly do you Work?: Eviama Life Green Spa & Boutique

Favorite Kind of Food: Healthy, fresh, local

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Burgers, sorry!

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly:  The absolutely most amazing dine-in lunch with relaxing atmosphere and exotic aromas is Indieblue. I recommend either the seafood or vegetarian thali, which is a combination of exquisite little dishes. Every flavor is exceptional, and the accompaniments are excellent. Nan that melts in your mouth! I also can’t get enough of Green Eggs Cafe – all skillets are yummy, food hits the spot with consistent quality, and the specials are always inventive (and they just opened for dinner at the Midtown location). For a lovely salmon plate (solomos) with braised kale and fennel that makes your mouth water, get thee to Opa! El Vez has a wonderful crab omelet for Sunday brunch – get some guacamole first but be sure to save room for main course! Fergies Pub runs the gamut – if you have vegan leanings and a brisket lover in tow, make everybody happy. Vegan Cheesesteak! Brisket Chili! More beer and mussels!!

When Other Sandwich Shops Shut Their Doors, Cosmi’s Deli is your Godfather

Sometimes I get major Italian hoagie cravings that take over my mind. This can happen at any time of day. The problem around Philly is that our hoagie shops are so amazing that they often run out of bread and close. And then I turn in to the Hulk. Nobody wants that. Such was the case, when a late lunch craving hit. I was out of luck at Ricci’s and Chickie’s. Luckily, for me and anyone in the path of my death stare, I discovered Cosmi’s was not far by and open until 9pm.

It is Welcome Week for Wok Works

Wok Works opened its doors officially yesterday to a hungry crowd. The space is small, so seating is limited, but the team does a decent job at moving the line. Of note, in terms of decor, were the “living walls” of plants. I guess I could be more observant because I only noticed them once they started dripping on me. But enough of the plant life, on to the food.

Daily Dim Sum from Wokano

Wokano on Washington Ave serves dim sum every day. The exterior is not too inviting, but inside it has the standard dim sum joint look; you know, gaudy chandeliers and big round tables.  Like most dim sum places, the stream of goodies dies down after lunch time, but at Wokano you can order from a one page menu of dim sum option, ensuring a fresh and hot product. Just know that they do run out of things.

I have certain standard for dim sum, so I had to find out: Woka-no or Woka-yes? I’m sorry, that’s likely the worst pun I have ever done.
