Midtown Lunch

Last Thursday we got free lunch from a couple of trucks but this week ups the ante with the MasterCard Priceless NY Food Truck Feast bringing us four free lunch opportunities downtown. Details are here but if you have a MasterCard and retweet with the #PricelessNY tag or like them on Facebook, you can get free food from Schnitzel & Things and Green Pirate on Broadway btw. Spring & Broome, and Crisp on Wheels and GO Burger on Hanover Sq. btw. Water & Pearl. There are two more weeks of this Thursday promotion so some of you can plan on leaving your lunch at home.

Thanks to those of you who pleaded your case of being one of the four VIPs at tomorrow’s All-Clad food truck stop in Soho.You can find the truck in front of the Sur La Table store at Spring & Crosby from noon until 2 p.m. It’s one of a bunch of stops featuring different chefs doing cooking demonstrations, and at this one chef Marc Murphy will be making a porchetta sandwich with pickled onions and tomato rosemary jam (!) and giving out free samples (so you could possibly call it a light lunch if you really want to freeload). At least this food truck tie-in has a little more relevance than blue jeans or airlines.

We don’t often post things about the increasing number of promo food trucks gracing the streets (tacos and Gap jeans anyone?), but this one involves free things for some of you Downtown Lunch’ers. Cookware maker All-Clad is launching a truck next week, and will make stops throughout Manhattan giving cooking demonstrations with chefs, and more importantly, giving out food samples from what is being cooked. One of the stops will be in Soho on September 21, and we’re giving away four VIP spots to meet chef Marc Murphy who you may have seen on the Food Network (or eaten at one of his fancy restaurants) and get a tour of the truck. There will also be some freebies involved. Interested? Tell us in the comments why you should be on of the four VIPs chosen, and obviously being in the Soho area at lunch time on the day of the stop is required. You have through Monday, Sept. 19 to try to snag one of the spots.

Here’s a nice end to your week in lunches: Pret A Manger is having a grand opening at its store on Church St. (at Park Pl.) today and according to Tribeca Citizen is giving away free sandwiches (although there’s no specification on what kind or whether you can shove more than one into your purse). It all goes down starting at noon, so plan accordingly.
