Fried Spaghetti Balls at Pizza by Cer Te

Pizza by Cer Te

My last visit to Pizza by Certe (56th btw Park+Lex) not only yielded a slice of Tony Manero, but also something I had been seeking out ever since it popped up in the forums over the summer, fried spaghetti balls. Fried spaghetti balls are not frequent, but not regular, menu item meaning you might not get to score one every time you visit. I learned this the hard way having stopped by Pizza by Certe a few times looking for them. For those of you who did get to try the spaghetti sandwich from M. Wells and loved it, these should definitely be on your to-eat list!

Pizza by Cer Te’s Tony Manero is a Double Stack of Deliciousness

The Tony Manero

Did you know that October was National Pizza Month? I didn’t. Not until I found out the Pizza by Cer Te (56th btw Park+Lex) was celebrating this underrated holiday by serving up a special pie all month long, The Tony Manero. That would be John Travolta’s character in Saturday Night Fever for you young’ins. This pie is special in a truly unique way: it’s a double-stack. Two margherita pies sandwiched together basically means you’re getting two of Cer Te’s crazy good pizza slices for $4. But does it really stack up?

We've got no idea whether it's good for restaurants or not, but a deal is a deal and today, InBundles is offering a $12 credit at Pizza by Certe (on 56th btw. Park+Lex) for $6. Pizza by Certe’s “Cheesesteak” is Really Just a Tasty Meatball Sub

pizza by certe brooklyn cheesesteak

Based on an ongoing forum discussion about cheese steaks in Midtown in the forums got my attention, and jogged my memory a bit. I recalled that Pizza by Certe had a menu item called the “Brooklyn Cheesesteak” ($8.50), which I’d been meaning to try. Try I did, and found that calling this thing a ‘cheese steak’ is a bit of a misnomer.

There’s cheese sure enough – gooey strands of mozzarella, which bind together tender strips of roasted peppers and tomato sauce. But there’s no actual steak in this sandwich. Instead, they use plump and fluffy meatballs, which turned out to be tremendously meaty, competently seasoned, and velvety smooth. It’s a tasty sandwich, but a cheese steak (in the traditional sense) it is not. Then again, with meatballs this good you don’t miss the steak.

Uncle Sammie Named Most Extreme New Pizza

Eater posted a round up of the 12 most extreme pizzas in New York City today, and Pizza by Cer Te’s Uncle Sammie made the list. For those of you who may not remember this beauty from back in July it featured pulled BBQ chicken, grilled corn, green beans, and a bacon-potato puree. Extreme? That sounds like a typical day at the office to me!
