Free Cold Stone Alert: Today from 5-8pm Cold Stone Creamery will be giving out free 3oz portions of Kate's Creation (an apple pie flavored ice cream) to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation (so I guess technically it's not free, if you have a soul.)  In Midtown there are two Cold Stones, one on 42nd btw. 7+8th, and one on 9th Ave. btw. 50+51st.

Some Vendors Are Braving the Rain: On the ML Twitter Tracker today... the monsoon has scared some vendors off the street, but there are a few toughing it out.  Wafels and Dinges has their truck parked on 46th street, and has one of their carts on 59th, Eddie's Pizza in on 52nd, Uncle Gussy's is on 51st with spanakopita (welcome to the twitter tracker guys!), and Papa Perrone has got sausage.

Pop Tarts World To Become Public Plaza: When Pop Tarts World, on 42nd btw. B'way+6th closes in February (sorry if you didn't realize that pop tarts sushi was only a temporary phenomenon) it is going to be replaced by a three story retail building with more public space for us Midtown Lunchers. Also noted in the same article... Anthos is becoming a steakhouse. [NYP via Eater]

Eddie's is on 52nd, Street Sweets is on 52nd, Mexicue was forced to move from Park Ave. to the Flatiron, Miss Softee is on her way with crumbcake, Cupcake Stop is on 58th, and if you buy one box of macaroons from Market in the Grand Hyatt, get one free until 5pm.

Kushi Q Closes 3rd Ave. Location: Thanks to Lunch'er Garett for passing this one along... the original location of the fast food yakitori joint Kushi Q (on 3rd Ave. btw. 45+46th) has closed, and there is a sign directing people to the Citigroup Center food court location (on 53rd btw. Lex+3rd).

Kelvin Slush is in Midtown!: It's probably the worst day for it, but we've just heard that Kelvin Slush is parked on 51st btw. 6+7th until 7:30pm. (Apparently Andrew Zimmern wanted to stop by after finishing up with the Schnitzel Truck.)  After their triumph at the Vendys, it might be worth ignoring the weather and checking it out. (But make sure you check Twitter for any updates.  You know how Midtown is...)

Harry’s Pizza Coming to Rock Center: With all the Vendy excitement we almost forget to mention this news reported on Friday by Feast NY. The owner's of Harry's Italian and Adrienne's Pizza Bar in the FiDi are opening a Harry's Pizza in the Rock Center concourse. Construction hasn't started yet, though, so it might be awhile.

Freshii Opening Today With Tons of Free Food: Freshii is now open on 39th & B'way and according to their twitter account there will be plenty of free stuff handed out today. Their "build your own" salads, burritos, wraps, rice bowls, etc doesn't really sound like our kind of thing. But if you think you might be into it, Grub Street has a preview of their menu and new space.
