The other day I happened to come across 44th Street Minar (between Lexington and 3rd ave) in the old 44 Curry House/Grill 44 space. For a brief while, I was convinced it was an entirely different establishment from the Minar on 46th Street and 6th Avenue (first reviewed by Zach in 2006), but after doing some Internet research, they actually look to be related (I guess the identical sign should have been a dead giveaway.) I’m always in the mood for quick and affordable Indian food, so I was happy to try out this other location of a Midtown Lunch staple.

With the wonderful lunch I ate at Joy Curry and Tandoor last week still fresh in my mind, I wanted to try 44 Curry House (on 44th btw. Lex+3rd) as well for a little compare contrast. I walk by this place every morning on my way to work and always notice during lunch time a good number of people eating there. Just like the lunch I got at Joy Curry and Tandoor, I went for the 2 veggie combo platter with rice and naan ($8.25). So, how did it compare?
Thanks to Lunch’er “Leslie” for passing along this news… Grill 44, the Middle Eastern/Indian hybrid on 44th known for their dosas and kati rolls, has become 44 Curry House. According to Leslie, the Middle Eastern food is gone… “Seemed like a relatively limited menu, but it was packed in there, and I heard a lot of people talking about ordering the biryanis. I think they had 3 of them - chicken, lamb, and vegetarian. They had the typical specials – 2 veg. curries, 1 meat and 1 veg., etc. and I’m pretty sure they were all under 10 dollars.” Sounds good to us!
