PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Conrad Logic”

Every Tuesday I turn over Midtown Lunch to a random worker, for their favorite places to eat lunch in Midtown. Today, it’s Conrad Logic.  A Rapper/Attorney who loves street meat.  I think I can let this one speak for itself.

Name: Conrad Logic

Age:
30 Plus

Weight:
Rolling Heavy

Occupation:
Rapper/Attorney  (For more, go to http://www.gentrifyordie.com/.  Btw- that’s his rapper website- not his Attorney Profile)

Where in Midtown do you Work?:
Rock Center Baby

Favorite Kind of Food:
Anything prepared by a cart monger. Currently, I’m in a strong Halal chicken and rice zone. Props to Midtown Lunch for dropping the science on the 53rd and Sixth cart having a branch location across the street. No wait, same great sauce!

Least Favorite Kind of Food:
Not sure it’s out there; I’m down- from sweetbreads to the funky chicken claw yakatori.

Favorite Place to Eat Lunch in Midtown:
Until recently it was the tasty marinated lamb at the Kwik Meal cart, dude’s full chef outfit lets you know he is a class act through and through. I’ve moved on to the burger and fries at the Burger Joint, just call ahead and walk in to pick up your sack of sweet burger lovin.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: Starbucks, sometimes you need the hookup a few times a day. Plus my girl packs me a lunch a few days a week.

Place you discovered on MidtownLunch.com: OMS/B (which is also graffiti crew based out of shibuya); a couple of the Set As makes for a nice snack before a prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella sammy at Milantz. Additionally, I’m a strong advocate of the Stalin special at the Hallo Berlin cart. Rolf’s wurst slicer is a true technological innovation.

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Singapore, they got this ridiculous market of street vendors in “Chinatown” where you can score top notch street food and bottomless snacks in many styles including the local char kway teow, Chinese cha shao fun, Indian murtabaks, Malay rotis and nasi lemak, and top notch Indonesian satays.

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers?: What’s your favorite purveyor of fine coffee in midtown vicinity?

Wow. I’m going to leave this one up to you guys. I’m speechless.

If you have a coffee suggestion for “Conrad”, leave it as a comment below- and as always, if you have news, suggestions, or you want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er- email me at zach@midtownlunch.com

  • He looks like the sniper from Dirty Harry.

  • Empire Coffee, 43rd and 9th. They also sell whole beans, so the place smells delish. There is also Coffee Pot on 9th at 49th, or the coffee at Whole Foods at W. 59th St is great.

I’m also desperate for coffee options – even reviews of delis and the standard midtown salad bar places. My only options are Starbucks and Juan Valdez (let me save you a trip – don’t go).

    Help people!

  • Juan Valdez is absolutely amazing..it is owned by a group of Colombian coffee farmers and the quality of coffee there is far superior than most other coffee options in midtown. It’s not even close to the burnt arabica Starbucks tries to pass as coffee…Am I the only one that thinks Starbucks is burnt coffee?

  • Rudy, will you be my friend? That was the best line I’ll read today.

  • I like the Manhattan Espresso Cafe at 49th and Lex. Their coffee tastes like coffee and they pull their shots Italian style.

  • dunkin donuts

  • Agree with Juan Valdez. Their ice coffee is cold-brewed, so the strong, kick-me-in-the-ass flavor isn’t washed out.

  • I like Dunkin’s too. I feel bad for the people who work at the one in the Rock Center subway station, though. Truly hellacious work location.

  • Oren’s all the way. I gladly make the hike from 6th Ave to Grand Central for a taste of their brew.

  • I have to say, this profile has already established itself as a highlight of my day. Maybe try Cucina & Co.? My boss is a hardcore coffee drinker, and that’s where she often gets her goods.

  • I second Orens! Yum! Best coffee in NYC!

  • Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve always loved Dunkin Donuts, but alas they are all too far away. Starbucks – I think it tastes burnt too. Oren’s – very good! Had forgotten about it – thanks for the reminder!

Juan Valdez – My complaints are more with the staff than the coffee. I’ll take your positive comments and give it another whirl – will have to try the iced coffee.

  • Starbucks has done more damage to London architecture than the bloody Luftwaffe

  • there is no baked & wired there, is there? http://www.bakedandwired.com/baked.htm the (female) barristas miss treating you contemptuously, conrad!

  • Not sure if you’re a espresso fan but Zibetto’s on 55th and 6th makes AMAZING espresso. =)

  • Where can I find “cold brewed iced coffee” midtown besides the Juan Valdez shops? they are slightly out of my way work wise. Tried burger joint for first time today, pretty good.

  • Anyone know of a place to get Vietnamese coffee in midtown?

  • He looks even more like Jonah Hill.

I freakin love Jonah Hill.  -zach

  • Read that Seattle’s Best Coffee cold-brews too. They’re in Borders, but I don’t know if they have any stand-alone stores in the city.

  • Motion for Oren’s granted! They’re the only place I’ve found that (1) uses great coffee and (2) properly brews it. The love of Oren’s is amply demonstrated by the regular line wrapped in and around the store in GCT. Dunkin is ok, but their coffee is, of course, a pretext for the donuts – everything tastes better when you’re high on sugar…

…which brings us to Starbucks. Their “coffee” is not only burnt, but also tastes like it’s been gmo’d to ensure the caffeine levels are high enough to burn a hole in your brain. It’s undrinkable unless you’re chasing it with one of their overpriced desserts.

How fitting that ML has a coffee forum on the first day in the last 4 years that I’ve missed out on my regular cup. Probably explains why I misread Logic’s website and thought it was a Scandinavian pun (fyordie).
