Oriental Noodle Shop Closed for Good

Sad news in the Midtown Lunch world; it looks like Oriental Noodle Shop (45th btw. Lex and 3rd) has closed for good. A Luncher contacted us this week letting us know that the storefront had a “for rent” sign up. No longer will we be able enjoy the buns or whole lobster; no longer will we be able to stage a wonton battle between Oriental Noodle Shop and Hop Won. We could surface no clues either from their website or DOH (it’s last rating was an A). Perhaps the politically correct police had something to do with it? If anyone knows the story behind the closing, please let us know in the comments.

Way to bring much-needed racism to ML, Wayne! I love being reminded that people automatically assume I’m an outsider based on my appearance!

Too bad…this place has been around since at least 1994 that I can recall

One of the barbers located above them told me that the rent was raised and the business was no longer viable.

I can confirm what Clues said above. One of the waitresses had mentioned that the owner of the building wanted to raise the rent and that it was too high for them to stay in business.
Too bad. I really enjoyed this place for lunch. It was one of very few decent sit in lunch places I would frequent.

Not surprised by closing. For many years this was the efficient place that always got my order right. But in last few years I really cut back due to all the mistakes. Wrong rice, wrong sauce, wrong size, etc. Suspect there was change in who was doing the day to day management. That tacky sign they had up advertising Gangnam Style Noodles was a red flag for a business in decline.
