Rock Center’s Greenmarket Returns Today

Hoda Kotb at the Rock Cente Greenmarket
Yup… that’s Hoda (still one of my fav ML sightings)

Today is the first day of the annual summer Rock Center Farmer’s Market. As in years past you can find them set up at the North Plaza, Rockefeller Place at 50th Street every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from now through September 3rd August 31st. Here’s who I’m looking forward to seeing.

Treats from Millport Dairy at the Rock Center Farmer's Market

As in years past, Millport Dairy is back with treats from Pennsylvania Dutch country and will be at the market today (they also come to the market on Thursdays and Fridays). They hail from Lancaster, PA and serve up some delicious whoopie pies, Shoo-Fly pie quarters and halves, as well as cheese. Forget any poseur whoopie pies with cream cheese filling. these guys sell the real deal and they are goooood.

Plus one for the ample cheese samples–the garlic chive and hot pepper jack are especially good.

Assorted Gelato from Valley Shepherd Creamery at the Rock Center Farmers Market

Valley Shepherd Creamery is another vendor to look forward to on Wednesdays and Fridays. They sell a variety of dairy products including sheep and cow’s milk cheeses, yogurt, and a rotating menu of gelato cups. Mmmm…gelato.

Katchkie Farm will be back Fridays. I’m hoping that they’ll return with the selection of sandwiches, beet chips, chilled soups, and basil-spearmint iced tea like they’ve had in the past.

For a full list of vendors check out the GrowNYC site. This year I noticed that there are two local wineries, King Ferry Winery on Wednesdays and Anthony Road Winery on Fridays and a local brewery (Tundra Brewery) on Thursdays and Fridays. If you’re a Farmers Market fan, let us know what you’re looking forward to this season?
