Today is Free Macaron Day All Over NYC

Macaron Cafe, Midtown NYC

In case your calendar doesn’t have every obscure food-related day (shame on you ML’ers), today is Macaron Day! Organized by François Payard, free Macarons will be offered at the following locations in the ML area (including a few just out of bounds). I think it was a sign that Bouchon Bakery and Macaron Cafe (note: this location not yet open) were both featured in posts yesterday. The fine print: Quantities are limited, one per customer, and you must tell them you are there for Macaron Day. Freeloaders, prepare to engage.

Which macarons taste the best? Any recommendations?

    • Depends on your taste preferences, doesn’t it? Do you mean flavors or locations?

I enjoy Macaron Cafe, and the folks at the one on 36th couldn’t be nicer. LMdC is expensive but they’re worth it, and Mad-Mac are up there as well. Generally, those last two places have a smaller assortment, but if you’re going for the free ones only, beggars can’t be choosers.

    • i’ll add that bouchon’s are pretty huge and expensive. i prefer the smaller ones from macaron cafe as well.

  • They should add another rule: anyone who says “macaroon” will be forced to eat an entire tin of Manischewitz Passover Macaroons .

Just got back from Macaron Day at Bouchon and La Maison du Chocolat. (what? I was hungry!) Bouchon’s were teensy. They’re handing them out at the door and they only had vanilla. La Maison’s were also a bit small but not as microscopic as Bouchons,. And La Maison’s were a very tasty combo of pistachio with chocolate creme. Yum-ola!

    • Oh, yeah, the free one tends to be the size of a nickel. The ones you pay for though… those are generally two sizes, depending on the bakery.
