Last Call for Cer Te’s May Sandwich

Certe

There are only a few days left for Lunch’er Wayne’s Gibraltar Barnyard, aka Cer Te’s May sandwich of the month ($8.95). Wayne gave us a sneak peek at the beginning of the month, which of course he liked (after all he designed the thing!) And even though I don’t typically get that far north for lunch, reading the comments pushed me to give it a shot before the month was up.

The sandwich comes on a lightly grilled ciabatta roll topped with crispy serrano ham, peppery arugula, blue cheese infused egg salad and spicy harissa. As Wayne himself noted:

The result is a spicy, crispy, gooey, salty, earthy, satisfying meal that works as a breakfast or a lunch. (Think bacon eggs cheese & spicy ketchup gone upscale if ordered as a late breakfast)

Gibraltar Barnyard

The egg salad seemed more chopped than mashed , but as Lunch’er Harry noted in the comments “It’s not a thick egg salad with large chunks of egg.” If you like blue cheese, you’ll be pleased to find it’s a strong element in the egg salad. I’m not the biggest arugula lover, but it works well here with the spiciness of the harissa and the pungency of the blue cheese. If you’re an egg salad fan looking for a creamy and decadent take on a lunch time staple, this sandwich should satisfy and you only have a few days left before Lunch’er Cindy aka Chubby Chinese Girl returns with her second sandwich challenge offering, the “Chubby Porky” (Thick Butter toasted white Bread, Beer & Soy marinated Pork Belly in between, topped with a sweet Sesame Sauce, Toasted Sesame Seeeds, Scallions & Parsley). If it’s anywhere near as good as the original Chubby Chinese Girl Sandwich (the February ’10 Sandwich of the month), this will be another one to check out. We look forward to your first report, Cindy!
