New “Sami Dosa Cart” Spotted On Broadway

Thanks to Lunch’er Adam Prato for sending in this one… yesterday a new Dosa cart popped up on Broadway btw. 54+55th across from the Letterman show.  The cart’s menu has a few different kinds of dosa, as well as uttapan, falafel, samosas, and biriyani. Adam’s job is moving Downtown starting next week, so I guess this is kind of his parting gift to Midtown Lunchers.  Early adopters, let us know how it is in the comments.

Just went too – not there – not happy… Had to console myself with Carnegie John’s…

  • Looks like the other Dosa cart, they seem to move around a bit… especially when they are new…

  • Edit: “As like the other dosa cart”

  • i happened to be by there yesterday right before 6 and didn’t realize that he was brand-new. i think the proprietor said that he moved from up around columbia, but with the language barrier, i’m not super-confident about that.

  • so Adam’s parting gift to ML smells like curry, is vaporous and disappeared without a trace

so in summary, he farted and left the room

  • Wow, pretty damn funny. Sorry to those who wasted their time. Thankfully I took pictures (especially for wayne).

I went today around 2pm and he was there. I had a dosa which was tasty though a bit too oily i thought. Tasted good though, with very nice chutney and sambar.

I’ve been going to Sami’s every day for a week now and the food just gets better and better. The samosas have a spicy and subtle flavour I am now addicted to and the coconut sauce thingy is delicious and the dosas are, well, really good. Today I asked Sami where he learnt to cook so well and he told me he was a chef in India before coming here, and, sadly, that he has very recently become a widower. So now he has my heart, my support, and my taste buds. Bless this talented chef!

Yes, I too had Sami’s samosas today. I bought four, fully intending to bring them home as trophies of the hunt. Only one made it. But the other three were super. Tomorrow I go back for dosa and maybe the tamarind rice.
