The Rest of the City is Going Fried Chicken Crazy

3 pc Spicy Chicken Meal w/ Cajun Rice & Biscuit, @ PopeyesFancy fried chicken is all the rage these days, with Eater, New York Magazine and Serious Eats both putting together lists of the best fancy (aka expensive) fried chicken in the city.  I can’t think of any fancy fried chicken  in Midtown that should have been included on these lists (can you?), but NYMag did put together a taste test of the best fast food fried chicken, and Popeye’s was crowned the king (completely deserved.) In fact, I think they’d even beat some of the fancy spots in a blind taste test. Popeye’s is (still open) on 40th btw. 7+8th.

  1. Am I in the minority? KFC baby! even P Diddy agrees.

  2. KFC isn’t as good as Popeye’s Cajun spices. No contest. Better biscuits and sides too.

  3. I prefer Popeye’s over KFC for sure (namely the extra crispy). I remember there being a Bojangles in NYC once (not sure where, I was pretty young), and that was even better.

how abt Mad for Chicken (fka Bonchon)? Not fancy – but definitely not cheap…

  5. Yeah, I agree with jae_em, except I don’t think that area is technically in Midtown Lunch vicinity. Also, sometimes their service SUCKS ASS. Haha.

  6. I’m still a proponent of Piece of Chicken. Little bit out of bounds, but tasty and cheap.

  7. I’ve eaten at Redhead (SE’s favorite) and don’t know what the big deal is. The best thing on my plate was the salad. Popeye’s FTW!

If the Kyochon on 5th ave & 32nd ever opens up, that’ll be awesome.

  11. I walked by Kyochon this past Friday. It didn’t look anywhere near ready to open up unfortunately.

Is the one on lex and 26th still there – it is not listed on the Popeye’s website?
Looking for some tasting fried chix accessible to Midtown East

  13. What about Chicken House on 36th near 8th ave? $5 gets you a lot of fries and 3 pieces of fired chicken. I say it wins on cheap price alone!

  14. @adamprato THERE WAS A BOJANGLES IN NYC?!??!?!??!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?

Why, oh why, are they not in Manhattan??
