Cart Burrito on 53rd Makes an Excellent Snack

Yesterday I made it back to that Halal cart on 53rd & Park that is now serving tacos and burritos (not to be confused with the new El Rey del Sabor cart on 49th btw. Lex+3rd).  The cart has been around for a few months, but they only started serving the Mexican food a month ago.  I tried the $3 chicken burrito with everything (rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, jalapenos) as recommended by Lunch’er “Alan”, and was pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was.

I think it’s more accurate to describe this as a halal cart version of a burrito, rather than straight up Mexican food.  They use Mission tortillas (the kind you buy in the grocery store) and the chicken tasted more like food cart/halal chicken than anything you would get at a Mexican restaurant (think: Carnegie John’s).  And even though $3 sounds like a great deal for a burrito, the thing is pretty small- so you will probably need to get two to be full (or supplement your lunch with something else.)

As far as taste goes the thing was much better than I expected.  The chicken was really flavorful, the jalapenos added a nice kick, and all and all it was a well wrapped little nugget of goodness. Can’t speak to the ground beef though… I only tried the chicken. I don’t know if I will be back for lunch, but it has definitely moved to the top of my list of best snacks in Midtown.
