ELECTION DAY PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Alan Colmes”

Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. Since today is election day, I thought it would be perfect to profile Alan Colmes from Fox News, who I discovered back in August is a Midtown Lunch reader! I must say, whatever your personal politics, you have to admire Alan for his bravery.  Think about how tough it is for him to go to work every day… if you’re a conservative, you hate him for being liberal.  And if you’re a liberal, you hate him for being on Fox News. But more than any of that, I think his strongest show of bravery to date… is agreeing to be profiled on Midtown Lunch.

Name: Alan Colmes

Age: ???

Occupation: Talk Show Host

Where in Midtown do you Work?: Rockefeller Center

Favorite Kind of Food: Burgers and pasta; I’m also a chocoholic and drink iced coffee 12 months a year, so thank goodness for all the coffee places that have popped up. But Dunkin’ Donuts has my vote over Starbucks, which is too bitter.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Sushi, Indian, and anything too spicy. Not a big fish eater, except for shrimp and tuna salad.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: The shrimp pasta at Bella Napoli (on 49th btw. 6+7th), the double cheese at Goodburger (45th btw. 5+6th); Bocca (underneath Rock Center) has a terrific thing where you can create your own pasta or sandwiches. I also like Variety Cafe (on 48th btw. 5+6th) for their very complete salad bar… every conceivable kind of food is available there. But Dishes on 45th (btw. Mad+5th) has the most unique and tasty salad bar.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Cafe Metro, the Evergreen Diner (on 47th btw. 6+7th), and Europa

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Loved the pictures of Goodburger before they opened; just saw that Shake Shack has a new location so now I have to try it.

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? How can there be a better place than Midtown Manhattan? If you don’t like the choices, wait a day or two and some new places will open.

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? If you can’t leave the office, who does the best delivery in terms of speed, quality of food, and getting the order right?

Really?  No, who did you vote for?  Or, where do you think Obama would like to eat lunch in Midtown?  Or, next time Sarah Palin comes to Midtown where could she find moose?  I personally don’t believe in delivery.  I think going out for your one hour lunch break is your God given right!  Even if it’s to eat your homemade lunch outside, or just wander around aimlessly.  But there are circumstances where delivery is important, and clearly it’s important today if you’re going to be glued to the election… so if you’ve got some good delivery tips for Alan, feel free to post them in the comments. (And if you have an answer to my moose question, you can put that below as well.)

And as always, if you want to be the next Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er, or you’d like to nominate somebody in your office email me at zach@midtownlunch.com

  • Best, speedy delivery: Atomic Wings

  • in before “this guy sucks/looks gay/sucks gays/is boring/eats crap/how do you live with yourself working for faux news/should get some personality and taste delivered for lunch.”

  • Island Burger is great on a day like today. They are slow (and on 9th Ave.), but the food is amazing. It’s early enough to order now.

  • delivery for folks on the eastside – mexican from baby bo’s cantina.

  • I vaguely recall meeting you on the When Plastic Surgery Goes Wrong Website.

  • Dishes and Goodburger? I will have to try those! And you’re a chocoholic- me too, LOL!!!!! And I agree, fish is just so nasty. Unless it’s fried, LOL! Thanks for the great profile!

    VOTE MCCAIN!!!!!

  • goodburger really…

i used to think their burger was decent. that was until a 19 dollar combo for single bacon cheeseburger , fries and a rb float on a monday, followed by a benjamins burger combo for 19 (no drink) on a tuesday.

there really is no comparison. i can think of 5 place to have a better and cheaper burger then goodburger.

rare, benjamins, shake shack, old bridge deli, burger heaven

  • More Botulism in his face than a Tad’s steak.

  • Zach – Best place for wild game is Henry’s End at the foot of the brooklyn Bridge (Brooklyn side) – have had reindeer, elk, antelope kangaroo, gator & snake there. However, moose meat is not sold commercially so they do not offer it but maybe if you could “acquire” some they could do a nice burger for you. Moose is a bit grainy and gamey but tasty just the same – burgers are the way to go.

  • …did you have an accident with a blow torch?

  • check out seamlessweb.com for delivery…they’ve got a lot of options

  • Wow, botox? Come on y’all! Ok he does work at Fox News, so maybe we should let him have it…

he does rep for Midtown Lunch though. Everyone else wants to work somewhere else, thus reducing possibly Midtown Lunchers for us to skewer every Tuesday. He’s championing for those ppl!! He champions skewers for us!!!

But yo, fish is awesome. The only kind of fish I can’t stand is the jesus fish bumper sticker/car ornament. Fuck that shit.

  • Fox News seriously doesn’t have Seamless Web?

  • that’s because fox news eats newborn children for lunch. c’mon, everyone knows that!

  • Hiya Alan…love you Air America radio show and loved your interview with Mavis Staples.. esp. the bit minimizing the Rev. Wright b.s. Hopefully I will run into you on the street…I did know a few Foxers.. but Roger Ailes’ Kool Aid is so strong that it can make a pro-choice former hippy child of the sixties into a Palin supporting fembot… P.S. I will be watching Fox tonight cos schadenfreude is the best antidote to 8 years of Bush!!

  • Little Italy on 45th & Mad

  • Delivery – Naples 45 or if you have enough friends, which may be tough for you at Fox News, Daisy Mays is always reliable. Then again, you can send some intern to their chili truck. Isn’t that delivery and they’ll get your order right?

  • Burrito Box on 9th Ave has quick delivery, fresh ingredients, accuracy, and FREE CHIPS.

  • Seriously, is that a Halloween mask?

  • Zach, this is big time to score Alan Colmes. I’ve always been a fan of his, but then again I also cheer for the Washington Generals.
