Cartwatch: A New Kati Roll Cart?

IMG00297.JPG

I walked by this mysterious “Main Hoon Na” cart the other day parked on 46th btw. 11+12th (a lot of the city’s carts park in the garages over in the far reaches of Midtown West). Kati rolls? Biriyani? Chicken tikka? Yes please! Anybody seen this cart, which may or may not have been named after a Bollywood movie, parked in Midtown? (Or somewhere else for that matter.) I can’t imagine it will replace the Briyani Cart (on 46th and 6th) but you can never have enough kati rolls… comment below or email me at zach@midtownlunch.com

  • The font on the plaque above the back wheel mirrors the font of The Biriyani Cart.

  • Interesting observation… but I’m almost positive the cart doesn’t belong to them. Most of those signs are printed at the same place.

  • Hah! I don’t know whether to be awed or saddened that you scout parked carts during off-hours :)

  • @EJ – I live in Hell’s Kitchen, and walk my dog over to the water every day. I figured saying that in the post would be more personal info than you would want to hear about me… but, I suppose if I’m going to framed as some nut job who spends his free time scouting carts, I need to defend myself.

I’m a nutjob who spends his LUNCHTIME scouting carts… it’s an important distinction. (or is it…)

  • You have a doggie?!
The writing across the top is similar to Kati Roll, no? I walked by Kati Roll Co this morning, it made me wish I worked more west.

  • Well, the only way to get to the bottom of this mystery is to put a tracking device on this bad boy. Anyone work for Homeland Security?

  • I know where this cart stakes its claim! Last week I saw it on the NE corner of 28th and Lex. I work over there now and didn’t have a chance to try it yet.

  • Yea, I think I saw it on the NW corner of 28th & Lex on Tuesday. I had the chicken and rice for $5. Not bad but my friend said Rifiqi’s was better. The cart boss was a real friendly guy who gave us free samples. I wanted to try the briyani but he said it would take 20 mins. The kati rolls looked good too.
