Rong Bao Shuttered, DOH Helps Milant
Walked by a couple of shuttered establishments yesterday…
Super cheap Chinese steam table, Rong Bao Fast Food, on 38th btw. 7+8th, was mysteriously closed yesterday. Not sure if this is permanent, but if it is, it’s no big surprise. Given the choice between Rong Bao, and the newly renovated Ying Du directly across the street (formerly the 38th St. Restaurant and Bakery), I’d always go to Y.D.
How the DOH is pushing more business to the best sandwich shop in Midtown, after the jump…
Directly across town, the Department of Health shut down “Cafe Trend” on the corner of 39th St. and 3rd Ave. Normally this wouldn’t be Midtown Lunch worthy news, but apparently the closing has created a ton of spillover for Milant, the tiny deli next door (and home to what I consider the best sandwiches in Midtown). Truthfully, if you chose Cafe Trend over Milant to begin with, you’re a total idiot, and deserve to be inconvenienced.
In related news, Winter is not officially over until Milant starts serving their famous Gazpacho, which they told me would be coming sometime in June.

say what you will about cafe trend, but at least it’s reliable. milant on the other is gross — it doesnt look like its been cleaned since the ’70s and i think the pre-made chicken cutlet sandwich they gave me was likely made around the same time.

i have eaten at cafe trend several times and the food is always fresh,and they are fast,on the the other hand i laugh when i hear people say milant have the best sandwiches i wouldnt let my dog eat their,that place is so dirty the guy behind the counter hasnt changed his apron since 1985

i go to ct every morning for breakfast and have the turbo wrap the place is always busy and clean and they always get my order right ,and jay you just sound like a hater

I love all of the wraps at Cafe Trend. I just have a tough time deciding which one to order since they are all so good. I always receive super fast serivce with a great big smile….XoXo

Zack that’s not me above in the Cafe Trend comment. Though I’m sure you figured that out. I follow the Rudy method of posting and keep it sarcastic (haha!)
And the “XoXo” <— WTF who still uses that and is NOT in high school.
Ah-HA! That explains it! Every day last week, I was walking past and seeing the CT employees hauling crap out the door and basically blocking the sidewalk and couldn’t figure out why. (I’m a little slow on the uptake.)
Not sad to see the place close. The one time I went in there, the guys behind the counter scowled at me like I was interrupting their oh-so busy day.
