At Lunch Now: Has the 5 Guys Pandemonium Died Down?

1:15 and the Five Guys on 55th btw 5+6th seems to be at normal
capacity. Only about 2 or 3 people on line, and 5-8 people waiting for
their food. Has the craziness died down, or are Mondays just slow as
everyone recovers from weekend eating and drinking?

  • Can’t wait to try this place out – have heard great things, from your site and others. I wonder how it compares with Goodburger.

Personally, I’m a bit hungover from the football games yesterday, and a cheeseburger would not be the most appetizing thing for my stomach!

  • I’m willing to bet it’s because everyone those New Year’s Resolutions are kicking in… everyone is trying to eat healthy. Give it a couple weeks, and I’m sure the line will be out the door again.

In the meantime, I didn’t say anything about eating healthy in my New Year’s Resolutions. So this is GREAT news for me!

  • See that woman 2nd table in?..that’s Angela having some beefy goodness.

  • And Peter Lusk standing behind her. Apparently once in a while, even vegtarians want food that is what it is, instead of just trying to taste like it

  • That woman at the first table is actually Empress Michiko of Japan enjoying a fair trade cranberry soda.

  • Seating is still a major issue everytime I go there. Partially because people come in groups, have two people claim seats, and two people handle the orders.

It’s mostly a problem because they wind up sitting there waiting for their burgers and occupying chairs that could otherwise go to people who just got their burgers and would be finished by the time it’s their turn.

Man, I had too many pronouns there to make sense.

Anyway, I’ve managed to get in and out in a reasonable time, and I always get a seat, but if you have more than one or two people, it might be stressful for awhile.

  • Can someone explain why they’d want to eat any red meat cooked beyond recognition (ie, medium-well)? This place holds zero interest to me.

  • Nearly everyone likes bacon well done.
    What’s the big deal?

  • Funny thing is, I hear the HOT DOGS are amazing – go figya!

  • @Mike

Its easy, Goodburger should change their slogan to “Home of the mediocre burger and crappy fries that are both overpriced”

The fries alone at 5 Guys are worth the trip but the burgers taste great and they have the best bacon ever!

  • @DDR bacon is not redmeat. I’m not sure how to respond.

  • Yes, Paul. I can see how you’d be stymied. Keep thinking about it… I’m sure you’ll come up with a response some day…

    Keep us posted!

  • Redmeat tastes best when cooked to a very low temperature (120-130 degrees). Cooking redmeat to medium-well (past 160 degrees) reduces its flavor but ensures that centrally processed meats are not tainted by feces and disease. Having a policy that prohibits cooking meat to a lower temperature suggests (to me) that they do not trust their meat suppliers.

Bacon, still not categorized as a redmeat, tastes better cooked to a higher temperature. What does one have to do with the other? Bravo on the meaningless ad hominem.

  • And bravo right back at ya for having the world’s lowest threshold for what constitutes an ad hominem attack!

  • They’re not well done in the sense they are burnt or tasteless. Their fully cooked through burgers that retain their juiciness. They taste great- but you gotta try them to know that.

And yes, they’re hot dogs are really, really good. And you can get all the toppings on them as well.

  • Thanks for the tip, Vishal.

  • Sorry Vishal, they are bad little patties with small grisly bits like you would get in a caf. Free toppings – great. Fried hot dog – fine. But terrible little well done burger – nasty. That is why this place is not crowded.
