At Lunch Now: Qdoba is Coming…

Poor Chipotle.  It’s not the only McBurrito on the block anymore…

Qdoba, the fast food burrito place owned by Jack in the Box, is planning on a December 1st opening for their a new 53rd St. & 3rd Ave location.  Anybody ever tried this place?  I know there is one on 34th btw. 2+3rd, but I haven’t been able to make it there yet.  I’m guessing it’s just going to make me miss Baja Fresh more than I already do, but the Chicken Mole Burrito looks mildly intriguing… thoughts?

  • back in my college days, we had a qdoba & a chipotle just a few blocks away from one another (qdoba was there first), and i have to say they’re basically the same thing. the key differences i noticed were that qdoba has yummy nachos on the menu (i still don’t understand why chipotle doesn’t have them), and they don’t use as many spices in their meat. but c’mon, now that i live in nyc, i don’t go to either. in midtown, i prefer the pampano burrito. subpar burrito bars be damned.

  • I’m with the Anti-Qdoba crowd, assuming the locations in Boston are indicative. Dry, lower quality ingredients, even less character than Chipotle, if that’s possible.

  • Qdoba > Chipotle
    3rd Ave

  • I, for one, love Chipotle and cilantro — def don’t turn up my nose to the cilantro and lime rice…YUM!

  • I wish it was as good as Baha Fresh, but it isn’t. I don’t think it is better than Chipotle either, and thats a statement unto itself.

I’ve tried several locations of Qdoba and its always kind blah.

  • Okay, I think Qdoba is 50,000 times better than Chipotle… Granted, I have only had Chipotle once, at the over-worked branch near Rock Center, so maybe I should give it another try. But I can totally work with Qdoba. Unforunately, I don’t work on the east side–though there is another one near my apt., on 34th St. between I think 2nd and 3rd?

  • I was a chipotle lover until..until i tried qdoba. substantially better. this is awesome. wonder if they will deliver. they will rock chiptole’s boat. quesdillas are awesome too.

  • Qdoba and Chipotle are pretty much the same flavorwise, although Chipotle touts, rightfully, its hormone and antibiotic free meats and dairy, amongst other environmentally nice things that Qdoba doesn’t. Baja Fresh is also equally good flavorwise, but has a lot more choice (grilled shrimp, fried to order fish tacos, etc) than the other two. Costwise there all the same, you’re not leaving till you spend $8.

  • Cilantro haters: sorry you got a bum genetic deal and all you taste is soap, but to normal people it’s effing awesome.

  • Qdoba is great. Better than Chipotle beacuse the menus is more extensive (burritos, awesome nachos, quesadillas etc) and the ones in Jersey (Short Hills anyway) are always hot, fresh and about $8. I am very happy to hear this news…its about time they came to NYC.

  • Qdoba is my absolute favorite quick mex place. The queso burritos (or the queso- anything) are amazing!!! The flavor and atmosphere is worlds ahead of Chipotle. I just moved from Philly, where they are sprouting up everywhere, and have been looking for one in the city ever since! I highly recommend!!

  • Qdoba is 10 million times better than Chipotle, they’re not even in the same league. Chipotle lacks flavor and uses bland ingredients. Baja Fresh is great, too, but nothing beats a Qdoba chicken queso burrito…

  • Qboda is much better than Chipotle. Good to hear they opened up by me, looks like I will be placing a visit there manana:)
