Dim Sum Time At Ocean City

The two food related areas I tend to be most snobbish about are probably pickles and dim sum. Dim sum is a great time for a group meal; tons of variety on little plate served to you by ladies with varying degrees of English proficiency is much more exciting than just ordering something from a menu.  The Notorious MSG agrees. I remember always insisting on sitting by the aisle as a child so I could pick out the dishes I had to have.

I was hesitant about dim sum in Philly, I have had the top notch goods in NY. Several months ago I tried the dim sum at Ocean City and was very disappointed. But when a few of my girls were in the mood for dim sum, I figured  I would give Ocean City another chance.

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Christina”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Christina who is looking for new UCity places to add to her lunch list.

Name: Christina

Age: 30s

Occupation: Membership Manager

Where in Philly do you Work?: International House Philadelphia 3701 Chestnut Street www.ihousephilly.org

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything seafood, Asian, or combination of the two. I used to live in Chinatown–I was broke and fat.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: I’m allergic to carrots and they’re randomly in everything. I love all non-itchy food though.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: Han Wool – hotpot. Asian seafood tofu stew goodness.

Midatlantic – smokehouse dog with saurkraut. HOME MADE KRAUT I will miss this place

Sunny Point (18th and South)- seitan cheese steak. I wish I worked closer but it’s good I don’t because their vegetarian stuff is the best I’ve ever had, as an omnivore. It’s such an unassuming little
place.

Tacos at Tres Jalapenos

As the safeness and slightly cheesiness should have hinted at, the food was lacking in authenticity. It was not an unpleasant meal, just nothing was memorable. However, if you don’t have lunch plans tomorrow, there is a special you should know about.

Cacia Bakery and The American Cheese Pizzaz Slice

Cacia Bakery is a tiny spot in South Philly with rolls and slices of  pizza behind glass for you to point at and take home with you. The snack sized square slices are barely over a dollar, but you will need a few to fill up.

I had heard tales of their tomato slice, but I just didn’t want to give up cheese. Instead, I was directed to the “pizzaz” slice.

Soup at Pho Hoa: The Pho Bo Kho is Pho’s Snazzy Best Friend

Pho Hoa is an international chain, which had previously persuaded me to seek my Viet soup elsewhere. But when I bit the bullet and dined there, I was pleasantly surprised by one soup in particular.
