If you’ve ever visited the Ear Inn on Spring St. in Soho, you likely walked past Pao on the corner of Greenwich without even noticing it’s there or what it was. I know I’ve done it on more than one occasion, but their lunch menu stood out to me because there aren’t many places in the city offering Portugese food, and probably even less with lunch time sandwiches for less than $10. The Twitter Tracker Has Sliders & Hibachi: I'm not going to comment about how water is not coming from the sky for fear of jinxing the weather during lunch, but there's a lot on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker. Taim, Frites N Meats, Red Hook Lobster, Andy's Italian Ice and Milk Truck are at the WFC lot and Kimchi Tacos, Palenque, Juice Pirate, Coolhaus, Eddie's Pizza and Now Eat This are at the Lent Space, Bongo Brothers is at Old Slip & Water, Phil's Steaks is at Water & John, Korilla's at Varick & Vandam and Sweetery's at Hudson & King. In case you missed it, Hibachi Heaven's at Water & Broad today (along with Mexicue) and the new Our Hero's slider cart's at Gouverneur btw. Front & Water while the truck's at Wall & Water.

The gates were down at Goodies on Fulton St. (at Gold) and I wasn’t exactly reassured by a sign in the window saying they would reopen soon. In a good news, bad news situation, Goodies has indeed bitten the dust, taking its menu of things you might expect to find in Chinatown and not the Financial District with it. Lunch’er Seaweed noted that signage had gone up for its replacement called Asian Wok. During a walk by today, it didn’t appear they were actually open, but a new menu was hanging in the window and as I feared it’s full of the usual Americanized Chinese suspects without any dim sum selections in sight. I guess it’s the only Chinese food option in that area if you don’t want to walk up to Yip’s on William St. This is one of the sadder closings in recent memory and I guess there will have to be more treks up to Chinatown now.

Hibachi Heaven Hitting The FiDi For Real Today: The plan was to launch the new Hibachi Heaven truck in the Financial District on Tuesday, but as often happens there were issues with the truck and it was pushed back. They informed us on Twitter yesterday afternoon that they're shooting to park at Water & Old Slip Broad, so get ready for some protein and rice cooked on a hibachi for lunch by taking a look at the menu. Update: They're parked and will start serving at 11:30.

It’s been a while since I ate a plate of lamb or chicken over rice, and I set out with the intention of rectifying that earlier this week, after noticing a couple of new carts in the lineup on Broadway between Pine and Liberty streets. Shafiq’s Halal cart is one of those and although I initially was going to stick with the standard lamb and chicken over rice combo, I saw several people ordering biryani and changed my mind.

While walking by the “coming slowly” location of Yushi on Pearl St. (btw. Maiden & Cedar) yesterday I noticed signs were up, and although the windows are still papered over there were people coming out who looked like they were there for training. We’ll try to keep you posted on when they’re opening, but if any of you see the doors open and Japanese food coming out, let us know!
